Consider that Sony is phasing out discs on January 2028 and beyond, meaning any upcoming game after then is no longer being released as a physical copy (neither will the future PS6 contain a disc drive at all) marking the PS5 as the final iteration within the generational lineup on having a disc. All versions of the PS5 inherit the same performance regarding games but the PS5 slim is compact while the PS5 Pro has a better CPU.
There’s nothing that can be done on a PS5 that you couldn’t do with a PC, and the PC isn’t a walled garden.
… Yet. Game, OS and hardware manufacturers are doing their worst.
Meh, as long as my PC can boot Linux, I’ll be fine. If future PCs don’t, then I’ve still got 50 years worth of gaming history to work through on the hardware and software I own, and that’s not counting the many, many tabletop systems that exist. I’ll die long before I run out of games to play.
yeah, and until then, there will for sure be Emulators for the newer games to run in Linux
you got some quality parts if they last 50 years
If only there were some open source alternative….
Don’t worry, Linux will be taken over by fascists and capitalists before you know it 😇
No
Definitely no. Maybe if you can find it second hand at 400$, maybe. But even if it’s worth it, I wouldn’t wanna support Sony rn.
Depends on your needs. There are a whole lot of great games for the PS5 (my partner finished Blood of Dawnwalker just a few days ago) and most of them run really well but let’s be honest, 95% of what you want to play is also available on PC.
If you are looking for something to just plug into your TV, sit back and play a game, go ahead, buy a classic or slim PS5 they are great. I wouldn’t recommend the PS5 Pro. Sure, it has a bit more power but so far I haven’t encountered any game that would have needed it and I doubt many will come out before the end of this generation. If you have enough budget for a PS5 Pro, you probably have enough budget for a Steam Machine instead.
No. To add to all the other bullshit, Sony don’t seem to be able to make good games anymore either.
No, unless you want to play GTA 6 before it gets to PC.
No! I’m on the opposite end of this and I’m looking to sell my PS5. Let me break down for you my mistake in purchasing into Sony’s ecosystem:
- You have to pay for the subscription service to play non-free games online. And they love to jack up the price and eliminate any potential avenue of discounts.
- The PS5 controllers are great in terms of functionality, but their build quality is terrible. All 3 of my official Sony controllers suffer from stick drift, and guess what, all third party controllers that exist for the PS5 are ridiculously expensive. If you’re out of warranty period, they just tell you to trash the controller and buy a new one. Call a local repair shop to fix it, and it costs more than the controller itself.
- Sony doesn’t respect it’s consumers (at least in Western markets). When they launched the limited edition PS5 Pro they had restrictions in Japan to prevent scalping. Not so in the rest of the world. They also had incredibly low stock. They also took scalping precautions on launch units, but only for Japan. The rest of us were left to fend for ourselves.
- The killing off of physical media is solely so they can generate more profit off of game sales. By eliminating brick and mortar stores from the equation they get rid of heavy discounts on clearance products, they don’t have to pay them their cut nor ship them the product, and they effectively eliminate second hand sales.
- They’re constantly funneling money into garbage live service, like Concord, then turn around and cancel single player games that are statistically likely to be successful. I’m not a Kojima fan, and I haven’t played any of his games in years, but it’s practically guaranteed that Physint is going to be a success since all his fans will come out in droves to buy it, like all his other games.
- They don’t have a reasonable refund policy. They game has to be in exceptionally bad state for them to give you a refund, as in a broken mess like CyberPunk 2077.
- Sony doesn’t respect ownership. They’ve taken away customers digital purchases on several occasions. Not just with their Playstation brand, but they did it when they acquired Crunchy Roll and merged it with Funimation.
- Sony is also working on stuffing more ads into their ecosystem. source
Sony doesn’t respect their customers, nor do they respect game makers. I haven’t bought a game for my PS5 in over a year and the only reason why I’ve kept it around is because my child plays GT7. As a person who has loved PlayStation since inception: FUCK SONY
Ps5 controller is too heavy and you cant use a ps4 controller for ps5 games
i got one because my ps4 was a base model and it wouldnt run games i wanted, it does play dvd and bluray, i dont think i’d be much happier with the $700 i spent on it
imo it’s worth it if you don’t have a high-spec desktop machine. PS5 is still kinda cheaper than a desktop for playing AAA games, and if you get the disc version it can be used as a bluray player. (though it can’t be used for dumping…)
