Just show up in a Thursday evening and tell them you saw the sign next week.

While I greatly respect(ed) Stephen Hawking, if I could time travel, going to his party would not be anywhere near the top of my list.

why did he post the information afterwards if he already knew that no one had shown up?
Because if he didn’t then they couldn’t.
But what if they did show up, then afterwards he chose not to publish the information?
