FYI, I’m not here to win a high school popularity contest. I’m perfectly capable of admitting that I am a flawed human being (as already acknowledge in my ‘second reply’).
I’m happy for you to be the big boy/girl here. Here’s a cookie: 🍪.

Ugh, make a liar of me will you? I should have read the replies before stating I wouldn’t be responding. But I hate blatant misinformation.
I could create a quadrillion JSON files using Python if I was aiming for quantity alone. For context, I was creating character profiles for video game characters that were derived from the public wikis. Good luck creating a Python code to read through an NPC’s wiki entry (and related entries) and then generating their personality, background, significant events, and relationships into a logical JSON file with ‘a few dozen lines of Python’.

Yeah, I’m not going to respond to the replies. I thought I made it clear; I already know that Lemmy has a collective ragegasm whenever someone says something positive about AI. You don’t need to tell me how much you hate it, I know. I just don’t care.

Unlike 110% of the Lemmy community, I am legitimately impressed by AI. LLMs have increased my productivity both at work and with my own personal hobbies.
Tonight alone, I created dozens of JSON files using an LLM for a game mod I’m developing that would have taken me days if I had created them manually.
My issues with Microsoft have nothing to do with AI (as a concept). Personally, I equate most people who oppose LLMs with the Luddite movement.
Microsoft has many, many issues. Their focus on forcing AI on people who mostly don’t want it is a stupid business decision IMO. They should focus their energy elsewhere.
I’d rather they fix Teams and remove the 4,738 completely useless Clippy notifications they send me daily (on my work computer—fuck using Windows at home).

Oh, for sure. I most definitely did not reach out to my local representative. That would be a weird interaction considering neither I, nor my local representative, are American.
BTW, you’re very welcome for highlighting your point here. Most people do not diligently follow their local politics. ‘Wanting’ them to do so isn’t much of an incentive. Nor is gaslighting them into believing that they should already be aware (coz reasons).

Yep, because all the constituents magically knew that their elected representatives were making deals behind their backs.

From the actual USDA website (had to use a VPN to access—clearly America doesn’t want other countries to witness their shame):
“Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times to not fund the food stamp program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Bottom line, the well has run dry. At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01. We are approaching an inflection point for Senate Democrats. They can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegal aliens and gender mutilation procedures or reopen the government so mothers, babies, and the most vulnerable among us can receive critical nutrition assistance.”
I cannot think of a single developed country that would allow such blatant partisan propaganda to be on an official government website.
How the fuck is this actually permitted?

Fall from Heaven II. It’s a fantasy themed overhaul mod for Civ IV. Has extraordinarily deep lore and unique game mechanics. I’ve never actually played the unmodded version of Civ IV. I only bought the game to play this mod.
My first job application as a spotty teenager landed me a job. This developed a false impression of the job market for baby me (in my country it’s perfectly legal to pay minors less than the minimum wage, thus an incentive to exploit children).
My second job, in my spotty mid-twenties, took me around 100-300 applications, and I only ended up getting the job due to some programme that let companies get cheaper onboarding through a government scheme.
I’m in my spotty mid-thirties (I might have bad skin), I’ve had success only applying for the occasional job that actually interests me, and putting my best foot forward (each application generally takes 3-5 hours preparation). I’m fortunate enough to not be desperate though (employed, just seeking something better).
Even with LLMs, I think most employers are savvy enough to tell if a person is genuinely interested.
Side note: Don’t use em dashes. I love em dashes—but so does ChatGPT—it’s one of the first things a recruiter will look for apparently.

“In other news, person in Milky Way galaxy starts bawling like a baby”

Looks like OP specifically altered the title for drama

Why change the title? Australia ≠ Queensland
This is like changing the title of any story about Florida to be about America.
I kind of get a ring. I wore a smartwatch for years, it was only after my last one broke, and I didn’t immediately replace it, that I realised how inconvenient they were. I used to constantly get it caught in things e.g. while getting dressed, and constantly had to keep adjusting the position of the band. With a ring on a finger, I can’t see this being anywhere near as much of an issue.
Would be great if they didn’t risk blowing your finger up.

The best thing Australia could do is to abandon both America and China as major trade partners. Both countries have shown they are unreliable and will use their market power as a weapon.

Don’t worry, the next time we ‘hurt the feelings of the Chinese people’ things will be back to normal.

I hate this. China is just as shitty a trade partner as America. They are reactionary and impose nonsensical tariffs in response to perceived slights.
Increasing trade and dependency with these countries creates a deterrent against free speech.
Let countries like this stand on their own.

I hate universities that do this patronising nonsense (which is probably most of them tbh).
Things like this should be taught at school and assumed knowledge at uni. University is (generally) for adults.
Having adults teaching other adults ‘how to respect other cultures’, ‘how not to rape someone’, ‘how to work in a group’, ‘how to be ethical’, is condescending af.
TIL by my coworkers that there was real shit going on in Nepal, Poland, and Qatar. Unfortunately, all of this was drowned out by every single fucking post in Lemmy being about some random American I never heard of getting shot (as if that were a noteworthy achievement in America).
I need to find a better way to get non-curated news. The public is clearly absolute utter shit for this purpose and no single news company can be trusted.

I don’t know. Shitting on a footpath is pretty wild.
