Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The boy who was relentlessly bullied by his uncle
5·20 days ago“Swiper no swiping! Swiper no swiping! Swiper no swiping!”
This is why I only pay attention to manifold, it’s funny money only, salty bet style, actually just fun instead of a horrifying gambling addiction.
Oh hey that’s Prospect Park Water Tower in Minneapolis, weird seeing it in a meme on the internet.
The Zachtronics solitaire collection (steam, Linux version available) has a bunch of fun unique solitaire variants, and every layout is guaranteed to be solvable.
It’s a lot harder to make that argument in the context of the rest of the lyrics
Music is a lot like love, it’s all a feeling And it fills the room, from the floor to the ceiling I see miracles all around me Stop and look around, it’s all astounding Water, fire, air and dirt Fucking magnets, how do they work? And I don’t talk to a scientist Y’all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed Solar eclipse, and vicious weather Fifteen thousand Juggalos together And I love my mom for giving me this Time on this planet, taking nothing for granted
It’s not anti-science, it’s frustration at the world for being the complicated, messy place it is, and a longing to go back to the simple innocence of childhood where even basic physical processes are magical. It’s not a rant that nobody should do science, it’s his own disillusionment, and a plea for people to allow a little bit more wonder into their world.
It’s a powerful lyric because even in a song about how magical the world is, it still slips in and ruins it, the pebble in your shoe that doesn’t allow you to ever truly experience that pure feeling again, always gnawing at you in the background no matter what you do.

Cool Guides@lemmy.ca•feels foolish that I never remember itEnglish
11·4 months agoAlways been a bit annoyed that people describe Morse as a binary code, it isn’t, it’s technically trinary, you have 3 symbols, dot, dash, and space. Without a space you can’t discern the difference between “hi” and “eeeeee”.
It’s a Netflix production, it’ll be there after the theatrical run.
It’s been added to OEIS already https://oeis.org/A268236

Anyway I’ll probably hack together an implementation to see if it actually works like I think it does

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you think of Jamie Oliver and the recipes he makes ?
3·1 year agohttps://youtu.be/V-a9VDIbZCU?si=IixV44vBFJRS9hzX
Pretty much sums up my opinion.
The standards for eggs are really strict in Japan, eggs are so safe already that eating raw eggs is a commonly accepted practice.

Linux@lemmy.ml•KDE's New Distro: Btrfs-Based, Immutable Linux OS, with Flatpak and Snap
5·1 year agoThink of it as the Mac appstore VS the Windows App store. Mac apps (flatpak) are the same as desktop apps, but sandboxed, the store isn’t intrusive, and people found it convenient, so it was fine. Then the windows app store (snaps) launched and it did basically the same thing but slightly worse, except Microsoft (canonical) forced it down its users throats, so people hated it.
Both camps are right, from a technical perspective, snaps are fine, but philosophically, it sucks, and the Linux community cares way more about the latter than the former, otherwise they’d all be running windows.

Games@lemmy.world•The Verge Under Fire For Publishing Info About ‘Deadlock,’ Valve’s Secret ShooterEnglish
79·1 year agoI think the thing everyone is forgetting is that valve isn’t stupid, there’s no way they didn’t realize you could work around accepting the (legally unenforcable) NDA, and it’s open invite.
Valve 100% knows that keeping it “secret” is good for hype and was expecting this to happen at any time, and the nominal ban was expected, but nobody is gonna get sued either.
More people are talking about Valve’s “secret” new game because of this than would be if they openly announced it.

Cool Guides@lemmy.ca•A cool guide to Longest Running Cartoon Set In Each StateEnglish
5·2 years agoNot sure I would really count Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman! As a cartoon. It’s a PBS edu-game show hosted by a cartoon dog, the majority of the show is following the contestants doing science challenges, there’s maybe 5 minutes of cartoon storyline per episode.

News@lemmy.world•Missouri AG stops release of longest-serving wrongfully convicted woman
45·2 years agoA quick Google search tells me that the term is outdated and no longer used, having been refuted by modern genetics research.
I blame Dan Povenmire for manifesting this into existence.

Keep in mind the launch model of the 360 didn’t have an HDMI port, most people still had a CRT, and it didn’t even come with component cables, there was only a composite lead in the box, you had to pay extra for component cables if you wanted them.
