She is using a Lemmynsfw account. She will not see any downvotes, there is literally not even a downvote button to use or see. To your other question, yes you would still only ever see your local downvotes total. That concept applies in general.

Just because there’s not downvotes doesn’t mean posts aren’t sorted based on popularity. Her posts last I checked had like maximum 8 upvotes after a few hours and have gotten very little attention. They will die in new. That is the system working as intended.

Yep, all of that is correct. In your example it would mean 5 users with eviltoast.org accounts downvoted the post. Barring any federation issues for various reasons the upvotes should be tallied to the correct total minus the handful of local downvotes you see, but other instances do not.

Downvotes are disabled and not federated on Lemmynsfw. You will only see downvotes on posts that originate from your local instance.

I agree that this user’s posting behavior is in poor form, but she isn’t violating any of the community or instance guidelines on spam. She’s paying the price for her poor etiquette by having all of her posts perform poorly and she won’t receive the the advertising she desires by posting. I don’t see any problem with this and the system is working as intended.

Sure thing. I’ve been around for a very long time on the instance and the OF issue has been rehashed many times. I don’t enjoy OF myself either, I’m the type of person who despises being advertised to in general and the dynamic of paying for attention isn’t my cup of tea, but I accept that it’s necessary in the current landscape to ensure there is a constant stream of content. It’s a symbiotic relationship between professional and amateur posters. If there were no OC content being posted then there would be fewer users and the environment would be far more uncomfortable for amateur exhibitionists to post to. It would scare most people off and the ones that did would get less of the attention they want.

Individual communities can choose to allow advertising in various ways with their rules and overwhelmingly they decide to allow it. This is for a reason. As a prolific commenter around here I choose who I’ll engage with based on their behavior. If they spam or don’t engage with their content at all after posting and just want to drop it like a billboard and leave, then I also won’t engage with their content(which does ultimately affect the visibility of a post if enough people share the same opinion). If the behavior is bad enough, that’s why the block button exists. When you lump every content creator together you’re also doing a disservice to the ones that do it respectfully and well. Like everything in life, it’s a spectrum.

You only had the 3 examples when I responded initially, but the other two that I see I also want to point out are almost always addressed by mods. It just takes time. Mods are people too and also volunteers - they aren’t online 100% of the time.

#2 A lot of the Onlyfans accounts aren’t being posted by the women themselves. They are managed by external agencies posting on their behalf. It’s how the industry works now. They would almost always rather delete a post than deal with negative attention to their client. It’s really not that suspicious to me.

#3 This is a sex forum. People get cold feet and delete their accounts once the horny wears off all the time. The horny comes back and they make a new account. Yes some of these posts are phishing, but a lot of them are just people thinking with their horny brain and then regretting it later.

I understand the sentiment, but frankly the mods and community as a whole do a very good job of policing to ensure shady things are removed. Please understand that there’s been a larger number of new users than usual because Reddit has been up to shenanigans recently. There will always be growing pains.

• #1: Without forced verification, which isn’t even a thing except in the largest subs on Reddit, you aren’t going to be able to fully combat people catfishing. Standard internet safety rules are always going to be necessary no matter what rules are in place and mods do a good job of responding to reported posts.

• #2: That’s not Onlyfans bait. Literally almost 80-90% of OC posters are advertising the links to their sites in their profile. The very act of posting is hoping to drive traffic to their paid content. Don’t be naive and please don’t shame someone for their choice of using a free image editor over a paid one, especially when their images are very high quality(although I do agree that their posting habits do classify them as a spammer)

• #3: Generally when you see the “first time posting” message, what they mean is that it’s their first time posting in a community and not on the instance. Remember that a lot of new content posters who are advertising don’t take the time to understand that this place is smaller than Reddit and we see every post regardless of where it’s posted because there’s less noise. It’s not malicious.

The username is similar to the old account that posted. More likely that they just deleted and remade the account after they didn’t get the response they wanted. The majority of these types of posts are husbands/bfs/whatever just asking people to jerk off to their wife without her consent so it’s pretty gross.
