I think they experimented and wanted them to be able to move in more places. But with engine limitations they only left it in one scripted place where there are no physics objects that can interact with it.

Non hardware answer: but for bare metal Kubernetes install I really recommend Talos OS. It is easy to install, secure and very lightweight. So you can squeeze more out of your hardware.
