Not a pixel owner but I have a one plus 7 (so 6 years old phone) and I don’t experience any problem with internet or data. Why would the frequency band change so often ?

You are right that it will continue, I was too dramatic. However the big advantage of AOSP is to have a solid common base.

Loved Dark Cloud. Spent so much time on it. I wanted to play it with emulator but I am pretty sure it is now just a horrible game to play with super rigid gameplay.

Lineage os and graphene os are both based on AOSP, no ? How to expect these projects to survive if AOSP becomes closed source ?
What worries me the most is the support for our phone. Constructor provides bad to average support for new android versions. Meanwhile, these projects can last for a long time. I have a one plus 7 pro and it is running on YAAP, receives OTA security updates every month and all the major versions of Android. Killing AOSP will lead to killing long term support of our phone.

I suppose it depends on your data size. If it is small data at very high speed yes it will be close to 4k random. If it is big files, probably not.
If saving speed is that important maybe think about compressing data. The other solution would be to have a second SSD and write on both simultaneously
