  • Things are really falling into place now! I feel like they were unfortunately really running up against the budget on this episode. It seems like they did the best they could with what they had, but I would have liked to see more of the action when Shiori attacks Ayame. Also, I wish they had differentiated the voice from the back of Ayame’s head more than just on the initial reveal. Could have done something interesting with it. Eh, it was still a good episode, so I won’t complain more.

I do find Ayame’s whole backstory to be interesting. She’s so obviously awful to this kid, but they also need her to be at least a touch sympathetic, and I’m not sure how well they tow that line. I’m honestly glad they didn’t stretch that out for this adaptation, because it leaves it up to more of the watcher’s interpretation. And of course, her explanation of the mermaid blood is starting to really make the gears turn faster for the story. I’m excited to keep watching!

  • Now I feel silly for having high hopes for this show. I’m all for them highlighting the different relationships that they have in the future with the whole ehlsea stuff, but it turns out it is really just an excuse to have a harem. I feel like a harem (or should we say ehlsea) ending could work within the culture of the world, but if that’s all there is to this story, it will be truly disappointing. Hopefully they will wrap up this whole incest mafia boss polycule storyline and show more of the admittedly interesting world they made.

  • Been like half a week since I watched this episode and I can’t remember much about it… Probably means that this show will be a drop soon from me. I just remember being disappointed by the way this premise was used. The escalated way too hard in the first episode, and showed that everyone in the show is just an idiot. Now, that can be fun, but it makes the conceit of the show suddenly lose all stakes. The gags aren’t funny enough, there is no chemistry between the leads, which makes the “romance” creepy at best, and the one conceit that pulled me in has no stakes at all since the guy could probably watch her lose an arm, bleed out, and then cry to the butler that she’s out of oil.
