Technology@lemmy.world•The "standard" car charger is usually overkill—but your electrician might not know that [32:26]English
4·8 months agoYes… I have experience here. I’m using dynamic energy tariffs so during real sunny weekends the price can be negative - I get paid to consume power. As you’d might imagine, I charged the EV, disconnected my solar panels, turned on all HVAC to max cooling and set both my ovens to clean-mode……… Put some clothes in the dryer, tripped my fuse and cost me €140,- to replace it. Also, power for that phase went out which contained one of the ovens, which was midcycle. Couldn’t cool itself down, melted the plastics 😬. But at least I gained €4 during the timeframe it worked.
I understand the point, and for the record I also believe those responsible should be held accountable personally. The difficult thing is simply the international character of the crimes committed. If these things are illegal in Germany, perhaps they should be tried under German law and courts.
But I also recognise that’s probably not going to happen due to the people accused having too much (political/soft) power. It’s a real dilemma when we’re talking about white collar crime.
Say for example, I do something right now in my home country, which is illegal for me to do in, say Madagascar, but is legal where I live. The thing I’m doing, I’m doing from my office in my home country. The effect is in Madagascar - is it then reasonable for Madagascar to ask my home country for extradition?
It’s absolutely not the same as what’s happened, but I’m taking it to an extreme to make a point. International laws are really difficult, especially when extradition of nationals is at play… not to invalidate the fact that these people did something very wrong by the way!
I mean, apart from the apparent guilt, do you think any country would simply hand over its prominent nationals? If there were a case against an US CEO in Germany, hell would freeze over before extradition.

5·9 months agoIndeed, where Tom Paris gets a memory implanted of a crime he didn’t commit!
Also, Microsoft owns LinkedIn so that might have something to do with it.

1·11 months agoI was just being a keyboard warrior. I can imagine your stance, however it is important to be at least aware of it. As long it’s a conscious choice! Problem with big ad parties these days is that it’s so complex, it’s hard to make a properly informed decision about it. My comment about bank statements is just taking it to the extreme to make a point - no offence intended of course.

7·11 months agoWow. Having not read the article (just the headline)… I seriously don’t understand why people torch/destroy other peoples stuff! Yes Elon bad, but why attack innocent civilians?! 10-ish years ago, you were considered a leftist nutjob with a hardon for climate change when you bought a Tesla (note: I do firmly believe in climate change), these days you’re a nazi driving the exact same car?… Debate, discussion, even disagreement between parties is all fine and dandy, but actually destroying other peoples property is - in my honest opinion - against the very thing people ‘are fighting for’.

0·2 years agoI don’t see real advantages for partitioning this way that outweigh the negatives - for desktop usage. For servers having separate home (and/or other dirs) partitions is great, as user fluff won’t kill the ability tor ‘more important processes’ to store stuff. If everything is kept on a single partition, the user is essentially able to DoS the system by filling up space.

Technology@lemmy.world•Teslas Can Still Be Stolen With a Cheap Radio Hack—Despite New Keyless TechEnglish
1·2 years agoI know! But Teslas are still connected to ‘Homebase’. I’m looking at it like Apple. Steal an iPhone? They’ll brick it remotely. This does scare thieves, one way or another. If there is a thief that is able to negate all the remote interception capabilities, sure… but the numbers of the people capable of that are low.

Technology@lemmy.world•Teslas Can Still Be Stolen With a Cheap Radio Hack—Despite New Keyless TechEnglish
22·2 years agoAs a Tesla owner I’m probably biased, but I do not fear these attacks at all. Thing is, because a Tesla is so connected to the mothership (and I definitely realise that’s both a good and a bad thing), chances of a thief actually being able to use or sell the vehicle are very slim. Tesla always knows where their cars are, and urning off GPS and LTE ruins 90% of the features in the car. I think thieves know this because I haven’t heard of any Tesla getting stolen and not being retrieved (but n=1).

Ohhhh, I love this! Do you have any more?
