I’ve heard similar arguments. But I don’t think the problems of the world can be solved by infantizing literal adults.

Not to be “That guy”, but 16 is what it is in most of the world. In fact I believe 30 US States have it at 16?

So at least Japan went with the “normal” number instead of following the Kid Rock method of “Well she’s got pubic hair so…”

But yeah, playing Persona 5 gave me quite a bit of culture shock. It opens with a gym teacher who actively molests female students, and it being considered normal with everyone knowing about it; because “The students were into it, why wouldn’t they be? He’s a famous ex-olympic athlete.”

I thought it was bad writing, but then I looked into it and learned not only the “13 was the AOC” thing but also that… Student-Teacher relationships were considered pretty normal in Japan. The player character in Persona 5 can actually get into one with his home room teacher should the player choose.

For the record, even in American states with a 16 year old AOC a teacher dating a student is considered highly illegal and requires a lifetime Sex Offender Registry.

So yeah definite culture shock, and definitely disgusting.

Sidenote: I don’t understand how the Right can claim, without evidence, that the transwomen are after the kids… but Kid Rock can literally sing about his love of statutory rape and make statements like “If there’s grass on the field, play ball!”, and he’s one of their heroes. It actually isn’t anymore, they raised it to 16 because the Japanese Government played Persona 5 and realized the gym teacher was creepy as hell… and that the game was a little messed up for continuing to sexualize that girl even after that arc ended
