Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Study shows that people who are blind from birth don't develop schizophrenia.
2·3 天前It’s the internet. What do you think?
We play speed Uno. If you have the identical card as the card that’s played, you can lay it down if you get it to the pile before the person whose turn it is lays down theirs. Play then continues from you.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you pronounce zebra in your country: zeebra or rhymes with Debra?
1·7 天前In the U.S., the letter Z is pronounced zee. The rest of the English-speaking world pronounces it zed. Thus the difference.
Many companies like websites, tv, radio, etc. depend on the revenues from advertisers to pay their workers and expenses. If they didn’t have that, everything would likely turn to susbscription or a regular pleading for money so they could continue.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The word "expert" is used frequently in news headlines, but its meaning is notoriously vague.
6·9 天前Yes. I have a strong opinion on the subject and have shared it extensively among my close friends.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those in countries with universal healthcare, what's it like?
5·9 天前Canada. You don’t pay for a broken arm or a checkup. You only pay for things like physiotherapy or massage. Dentisit is covered if you’re old, young, or not making much money. Pharmacy is covered (with a small fee) if you’re old. The emergency room works on a triage system so, if you’re not seriously sick, you’ll probably wait a long time. There are long wait times for specialists in some areas. I can’t speak for everyone, but the care my extended family and I have received has been excellent.

4·9 天前Aren’t they pronounced the same?
It’s too bad we can’t get animals (including ourselves) to hold it all day then dispense it into a fuel tank for home use.

17·11 天前Where would you rate them in comparison to the disinformation coming out of the U.S. government?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How not to go crazy from what is happening and most likely will be happening in the world?
2·11 天前Get perspective. We are living in one of the best times in the history of the human race. Tell me a time before 1950 going back 300 000 years that you’d rather live in.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something cozy you like to watch, listen to, or do to relax?
8·11 天前Charles Schultz once said, “There are three things that people like to just sit and watch: softly falling snow, an open fire, and a Zamboni driving around a rink.”
Hilarious. And perhaps a little too accurate for comfort.
My problem is with the word soup. Scientists don’t call today’s ocean a soup and it has many times more compounds, materials, and living matter.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone else tired of guessing at how to make life better for a majority of people like its your personal life mission or something?
3·12 天前No need to guess. For the average world citizen, most quality of life metrics have been on a constant upward trend since WW2.
