I would totally be cool to live in the Bobverse.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•We always hear/read about Goverments cencoring the internet. What is something that the US is not knowing is being censored?
7·1 month agoSame, this is literally the first I’ve heard about the natives just “giving up and making way” for the Europeans. I recall being taught about the trail of tears and how we forced them off their land by any means necessary. Then again I grew up in a liberal city on the East Coast so my experiences probably aren’t universal.
I’m not an expert in the whole giant pumpkin phenomenon, but it’s my understanding that the pumpkins are generally grown by hobbyists for fun rather than farmers on an industrial scale. So I don’t think it’s a trade-off on our food system, where kids are starving in Africa because farmers are wasting their resources growing pumpkins. I think it’s more of an, “look what I did” type thing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Americans, what do typically have for breakfast?
18·2 months agoI’ve always assumed that was propaganda pushed by big breakfast. /s

10·2 months agoAs an American who doesn’t eat breakfast, I’m curious why that is shocking to you?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the first thing you'd do with a Star Trek holodeck?
2·2 months agoI’m sorry to hear that, I also long to hang out with my old college buddies from 20ish years ago under circumstances that no longer exist. Sigh Time is a bitch ain’t it?

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Hmm this "unisex" bathroom seems biased...
5·3 months agoIt’s not a discussion I’ve ever seen Americans have IRL, only in sitcoms.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If fossil fuels aren't vegan that would mean almost nobody is actually vegan.
2·3 months agoCan you give some real world examples of systems that contain animal exploitation that vegans would want to see improved? I’m not sure I completely follow that point.
Some thing, some thing Miles O’Brien.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The people developing vegan meat alternatives must have eaten a lot of meat beforehand so they can replicate the taste and texture.
17·4 months agoI’m fairly certain most of the big name alternative meat products on the market were developed by capitalists and not vegans.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The people developing vegan meat alternatives must have eaten a lot of meat beforehand so they can replicate the taste and texture.
8·4 months agoBy any strict definition of the term it’s not considered vegan, that said there are people out there who attempt to debate the matter.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The people developing vegan meat alternatives must have eaten a lot of meat beforehand so they can replicate the taste and texture.
6·4 months agoAccording to the vegan society’s definition of the term veganism, which is generally considered the go to definition, human breast milk when given with consent is vegan.
On the other hand while some attempt to debate the matter Honey is not considered vegan according to that definition.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Screen size & your importance
11·4 months agoSame, I’m also a dev who prefers working off a notebook screen. This fact boggles the minds of my coworkers, especially my boss who seems mortally offended that I only work on one screen.
I guess that means I’ve broken the social norms of a corporate slave?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do if you were an 8 year old again, with your current mind (including memories and skills)?
1·4 months agoInteresting point! I’ve often wondered how much chemistry/our endocrine system effects our personality. Especially by the time we hit puberty again, I assume we’d be acting like a horny teenager again regardless of our past lives.
That said it’s worth mentioning that the title of the post directly states that we would have our current mind intact. So for the purposes of this thought experiment I’m going to assume all of our memories and thoughts would be completely intact, only our body chemistry will likely shift some of our drives and impulses.
Sounds like it’s time to find a new primary doctor, that’s insane.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do if you were an 8 year old again, with your current mind (including memories and skills)?
3·4 months agoBut here’s the fun thing, your brain is incredibly flexible when you are that age. So your ability to learn and retain at the age of 8 would be significantly easier than it is as an adult. So yes if you put your mind to it, you could potentially be significantly smarter than you are as an adult.
Long story short this could easily 2x your education giving you genius level intelligence you’d get to retain even when you become an adult again.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think about Binaural Beats ?
1·5 months agoOh yes, of course. I’ve played with a binaural beat generator to see how different tones affect me. For example gamma tones sound like a swarm of locust, but holy crap does it help me focus.
That said I will generally just search through YouTube as they will generally have a (somewhat) pleasant sounding binaural beats for just about any mood you are looking to invoke.
If you haven’t yet, I suggest you play around with a few different tones and see how they affect you.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think about Binaural Beats ?
2·5 months agoI’ve been using them for years and find they are really great for meditation, relaxation, or getting yourself into a deep focus mode. I’m a big fan and tend to pull them out every so often.
