linuxmemes@lemmy.world•all my fellow linuxbros know this feel :(English
2·6 天前I just got this error for the first time yesterday and was briefly confused. I didn’t realize that you don’t automatically get sudo privileges when you set up an admin account on every distro.
This happened to me too a few years ago, and I’m also quite a calm person, so it caught me by surprise.
It was 6 months or so after becoming a father, and my best guess is that the sleep deprivation was messing with my head. It stopped and I’ve been fine since.
I get them sometimes too. After googling it before, my best guess is precordial catch. Apparently good posture and staying hydrated can help prevent it.
When you feel like it, start looking up stuff you can do now that you couldn’t before, like customizing your desktop environment (“ricing”). It’s fun, and there are a lot of options out there.
And you don’t have to, because the GUI options are good too, but I make a point to install and update packages from the terminal. You’ll get more familiar with it that way.
I looked it up before posting to make sure it wasn’t AI. It’s one of a series of art installations by an artist in Bucharest.

25·9 天前Well, how about “for as long as I maintain the hardware”?

39·9 天前This video was what convinced me to start up a Jellyfin server last month. It’s fantastic. The peace of mind knowing that I have all my media stored locally, forever, is so satisfying.

10·10 天前Welp, that’s the main way I watch any streaming service. Guess I’ll just lean harder into Jellyfin.
She’s on the lookout for one at face height.
I just bought the shirt because it looked cool

30·16 天前Reminds me of that service for college students called “My Math Lab”
Surely it’s been renamed or retired by now though.
That was a good year.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Best Linux gaming distro for 2010's hardware.English
17·18 天前Your PC that you found in the trash has better specs than the first one I installed Linux on a few months ago as a newbie: 770, maybe an i5.
Pop OS was super user friendly for a new user and handled drivers and everything really well for me. I’ve only played some less intense games from my steam library, but I’m not noticing any severe lag. I bet it could handle retro gaming/emulation easily.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats a band/artist who's music all sounds the same?English
4·20 天前I guess I’m just associating them with their “boy band” phase then. Most of my Beatles listening was probably from the collection of hits on the 1 album back in the late 90s or early 2000s, whenever that came out.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•Zork I, Zork II and Zork III are now officially open sourceEnglish
5·20 天前That sounds like the way to do it. Last time, I read some posts where people were using premade maps online, and my first thought was that it would defeat the purpose. I want to feel like an explorer.

11·20 天前I should really give Zork an earnest try. Every few years I pick it up for like 10min, thinking “Wow, this is cool”, and then drop it.

I do too. One of my favorites was seeing someone playing fallout (don’t remember which one. 3?) on an era appropriate TV.
I personally enjoy this stuff a lot because I’m someone who doesn’t like to get rid of any tech. I still have all my old phones, consoles, TVs (I still frequently use a 720p plasma). I like seeing old stuff get repurposed and continuing to work.
