True, reddit does feel a lot more aggressive when you try discussing something, not just politics. Like that tone itself, something like " anyone who does this or doesn’t do this is really dumb/ piece of shit)" I have seen this sort of comments everywhere. I don’t like the subtle aggression it shows. I’ll be honest, lemmy has their own share of it, but it’s a significantly smaller share of people than on reddit.

Isn’t that always the case? Going off topic, but dreams are often better for me than reality. Once in my dream light yagami killed yoda.

I mean, I do still think those sites are dumpster fire, but there’s convenience of following few of your favorite artists, but to curate more, I need to go through that dumpster fire. That’s how I even know a few of them, because I doom scrolled a lot before. And I don’t like the idea of doing that again. Hence in another comment I said it’s better to not go there, and basically living with either the artists I already follow, or just not go to the site at all.

Bro seriously doesn’t know what “average person” is

Thanks for replying. By AI I meant
low effort, single prompt slops that are filling the internet
Content that’s barely distinguishable as AI.
I see though, when I thought of curating non AI content, my first thought was, " why am I getting onto these platforms again" in my head it sounded like trying to pick best stuff on the internet, but then when it comes to Meta platforms, I mostly use it to chat with friends, And open Instagram links if I ever find one, or even check on a few content creators I follow. Same with YouTube shorts, I exclusively only watch omar agamy, a geopolitical news guy.
But yeah for most people like you, it’s just better to not go on the websites at all(it’s more peaceful). Like, even for me, if it’s about having a genuine conversation on Internet, I mostly come to lemmy, unless it’s a niche thing, only then I go to reddit. I guess it’s better this way, lol.
Thanks. I genuinely think it’s a good idea to avoid these sites, but having a conversation over it does help me think more clearly

Social media was tolerable when there was only one.

It does also sometimes stem from people’s inability to elaborate. Like if you dislike something, there’s a reason you hate it. That’s why I especially hate reviews like “it’s mid” or “it’s goated”/“it’s peak” like they barely help.

Nah, I guess it’s the right thing to try to engage in a productive discussion. Might sound stupid but lemmy is far smaller than traditional social media. It’s like a local tavern of social medias, and there’s isn’t an endless supply of trolls like there’s on other social medias. Besides having conversation with someone of opposing ideas is always welcomed.

Thing is, sometimes it takes more effort to know something than you have the energy to put.

It’s fine

It was the same as the book? doesn’t grace end up on erid with them taking good care of him? Honestly, the earth he was going to return to would be so different it might be " alien " in it’s own way. 26 years later nothing would look same. And if we go based on the book, stratt predicted the world would be in chaos, so I don’t think Earth would be a more pleasant place for him.
But I see why Andy didn’t get into the details of that, because that would mean some sort of geopolitical analysis, which he might have wanted to avoid. That was what I felt must have been the reason he didn’t want Grace to be on Earth, to avoid making any geopolitical comment

Finally watched the movie. My expectations were aptly set by this thread, but it did exceed they for me. Like, everyone did say it would be shallower, which it indeed was, but the director definitely did his homework and most of the stuff from the books was hidden in details. Even this is rare in Hollywood so I guess it’s a great movie for me.

I think the shocker in the book was her actually her making herself emotionally vulnerable during her betrayal. It’s okay, it’s their choice, but I would have loved seeing an HR manager type lady peacefully asking for help, and going full stratt mode after rejection.

Yeah it looks like a visual spectacle, But I have to choose between two movies. Hence I’ll skip for now

I agree. But if that’s the case I guess I’ll wait for ott release.

That sucks. I liked her borderline kim Jong un personality.

What about stratt? Her personality seems much mellower in the trailer than from the book
True, Lemmy feels this way almost exclusively because it’s small and hasn’t been noticed by mainstream media enough. The second that changes this place will become what reddit was pre-ipo.
