This is going to require good branding and simplified explanations.

What we have going for us is that basically everyone agrees that Congress isn’t functional.

You need a small list of very focused demands. Occupy Wall Street and BLM failed because they started tacking on too many things.

Here are demands that will fix the core issues at the federal level:

1. An expansion of the number of seats in the house and senate. At the federal level, each congress person represents far too many constituents. This is not unprecedented; the house has been expanded before.
2. We must switch from first-past-the-post to proportional representation.
3. The Senate’s role in passing legislation must be reduced to a time-based veto only. Meaning: a bill passed by the House must be vetoed by the Senate within 90 days or it goes to the president’s desk.
4. An overturning of the Citizens United decision and publicly funded elections.
5. Removal of the presidental pardon.

These five items must be implemented if our democracy is to survive. Everything else can be handled after.

I tried to look up how much power these self driving systems are pulling, but it looks like that will require a deeper dive. The only results I got from a quick search were from 2017-2018, and the systems were pulling around 2 kW. I’m sure that’s come down in the 7-8 years since, but I don’t know how much.

I think you’re right on the lawsuit/upgrade cost. They are on the hook to supply Full Self Driving to all the buyers who bought the option. It’s clear they’re not going to be able to provide it. It looks like there are several class-action lawsuits currently underway.

The power draw to process the LIDAR data is negligible compared to the energy used to move the car. 250-300 Watt hours per mile is what it takes to move an electric sedan on average. You might lose a mile of range over an hour of driving, and that’s if you add the LIDAR system without reducing the optical processing load.

LIDAR sensor housing can be made aerodynamic.

While it’s true that LIDAR was more expensive when they started work on self-driving, it doesn’t make sense for them to continue down this path now. It’s all sunk cost fallacy and pride at this point.

Trustpilot tries to weed out fake reviews. A huge influx of reviews all at once looks like fake reviews. And, to be fair, I imagine a chunk of those reviews are “fake” in that the reviewers never used the app. It’s easier for Trustpilot to cut off new reviews for the time being than to deal with evaluating all these new reviews.

That doesn’t have to be a private company, though. We need public funding that retains the patent rights, if not just to make the invention free from licensing costs to manufacture.

So that’s what happened to my Blu-ray drive on my PC! I had to flash the firmware to a custom version for ripping to get it to read anything.

That is incredibly shitty behavior. I’m putting the disk that I purchased into my own hardware. The studio already got my money from the sale, why the hell do they care?

Nah. This would require an update be sent out to every blu ray player, which is not feasible unless they were all standardized to a single database or service for their license keys.

Even if that were the case, which it’s not, the device would need to connect to the internet for this scheme to work.
