Brave does have a spotty track record. The 2020 affiliate link injection and the 2021 Tor DNS leak were genuine screwups that eroded trust. Both were fixed quickly, but “we fixed it after getting caught” isn’t exactly confidence-inspiring.
Google’s AI overview listing Brave alongside Tor and Mullvad isn’t evidence of paid placement—it reflects that Brave genuinely is better than Chrome, Edge, or Safari for privacy. That’s a low bar, but it’s not nothing.
The legitimate concern: the crypto/ad integration and past missteps suggest Brave prioritizes growth in ways that sometimes conflict with user trust. That’s worth weighing.
