World News@lemmy.world•EU parliament votes to dilute landmark rules holding corporations accountableEnglish
5·22 days agoThe capitalist class will ceaselessly and tirelessly work to roll back measures that benefit the working class. This is just the reality of the current economic system, and why the social democrat worldview of “working with the system instead of against it” is fundamentally flawed, even if good-spirited
Let’s be realistic. This will not stop under capitalism. Any company that doesn’t exploit their users and employees for the most amount of profit will get outcompeted and driven out of the market by a different company that does.
Thinking communism is not democratic means capitalist propaganda got to you. Communism is completely community driven (how else would workers own the means of production?) and built on consensus and direct democracy
Not if you are in New Zealand (and the comic does say possum, not opossum)! Fuck those pests
You don’t make third parties viable by voting for them, though. You do so by pushing for electoral reform and systems like score voting, proportional representation, or MP
Nothing will change if the only thing you do is vote.

3·29 days agoApathy isn’t revolutionary. We must fully support leftist candidates while also being critical of their platform and aware that electoral politics inside a capitalist system will only get us so far. But never losing hope that more people see the light and become class conscious.

USB-A is still in wide use, it’s what most people just call USB, it’s the non-reversible one that most thumbdrives use.
USB-B (which includes mini-USB and micro-USB, among others) is being slowly phased put in favour of USB-C

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Which timezone would win in a conflict?
2·2 months agoI think we can arrive to a best-of-both-worlds solution if we just up the tolerance for when solar noon can be to 12:00±2 h. If China just had +7 instead of +8 as their timezone then 99 % of the population would have solar noon in between 10:30 and 13:30. Same applies to the entire EU (excluding Outermost Regions) if it had +1. The entirety of South America and most of the Caribbean would fit in +4. The US could definitely get away with 3 timezones instead of its current 5 (-6, -8, -10).
