I know the legal meaning of a yellow light varies from place to place, but the effective meaning of traffic lights is:

• Red: You shouldn’t be in the intersection. You must not find yourself in the intersection, because other traffic/pedestrians/etc are doing so, and if you’re in the intersection, you’re creating a safety problem.

• Yellow: a Red is imminent. You should take whatever steps are safe to ensure that you will not be in the intersection when the light turns red. If that means you need to drive through to get clear, then if the path is clear, do so. If that means instead you need to stop and you can safely do so, do that.

• Green: you can go straight through; if you’re turning in a legal direction, you can do so after safely yielding.

I get you need chaplains, but IMO just use the official endonyms of each group without trying to categorize or subcategorize, and call it a day and let the chaplains match themselves up.

If I were a Catholic in the military and I got an LDS chaplain (or vice versa) for my religious rites, I’d be upset. So just treat all the little groups as their own little things if you must change something.

I take it they used the King James “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in vain” translation, rather than the more-accurate “you will not carry the name of Yahweh your God for empty purposes”

Interestingly, if folks like this read their Bibles – especially the Genesis part they love so much – they’d see that the one of the very first commands God gave to humans in there was to tend the earth as a garden. Like, it’s one of the first things ever said to a human in the whole book.

But like a lot of the Bible, right-wing types tend to ignore that because religion is a tool for control for them, not a guiding morality that constrains their unchecked lust for power.

I’ve done a lot of work on healing from it since. I’ve got a kid now, and it’s been healing to live every day in a way that shows that you totally can just love your kid and not have to treat them like that.

I might, if what they did were severe enough, express that what they did is disappointing. But that’s different from branding them with the iron of disappointment-as-identity. Everyone does stuff sometimes that is worse than they aspire to be. The trick is coming back from it, learning and growing and changing.
