We live in an era of unprecedented passport checks, visa quotas, and detention centers, a world that regulates human movement more tightly than at any other point in history.

    Uh… internal passports anyone?

    Rest of post is ok.

@gerikson @Lessthan3 Gee, I remember in grade school in the 1960s we were indoctrinated that America was a free country because you could move around anywhere without having to be stopped and “show your papers” like in many countries then.
What went wrong and how did we let this happen?
      Where’s YOUR hall pass?

@gerikson @Lessthan3 A russian team is visiting France in the 70s. The negotiations are going well, but slow and the weekend comes up. The french offer to take them down to Nice to see the sea.

      - ok but who will arrange the internal passports?
      - the what?
      - and we need fuel allowance tickets, and its late friday…
      - what now?
      - and a road permit?
      - what are you talking about? We get into the car, drive down, enjoy the beach, came back!
The russians murmuring each other: “Such anarchy!”
