Remember that time the Supreme Court decided our 2000 presidential election? I do. OP must be old…

Tbf before that the last time it had become an issue was the late 1800s

Before 2000 there had actually been a significant push by Nixon to get it abolished because until 2000 conservatives agreed that an outcome where the EC and Popular vote were out of sync was bad and should be avoided, and IIRC the effort lost steam because the shock of realizing it was “possible” was outpaced by everyone dismissing that “well that hasn’t happened in decades! It won’t ever happen again!”

I can only think of Nixon, but maybe there was someone else more recently. If not, 50+ years is a long time for pepperidge farm to be remembering; at that point we should just be assuming the government has been irredeemable for our entire lives.

I think President Tyler got arrested for running a woman over once

This was so long ago that “running her over” was literal, the horse he was riding was speeding and ran over her after knocking her down.

After events such as the repeal of Roe Vs Wade, any imbecile that still insists that bOtH pArTiEs ArE tHe SaMe LoL aMiRiTe as an excuse to not vote (or vote third party) is damaged beyond repair, either through stubborn ignorance or bad faith. These imbeciles and their so-called “purity” have taken millions of women and their wombs hostage, just like evangelical fundamentalists have wanted all along.

Oh BS. Just because they’re conservative doesn’t mean they’re loyal to Republicans. Why would they be?! They sit for life. (Thomas’ greed being a notable exception.)

Here’s a load of cases where they went against conservatives and the GOP. There was a big ruling against Trump a ways back, can’t find it for all the current noise on the subject.

Thomas’ greed being a notable exception

So adorable that you think Thomas’ greed is the exception and the right wing activist judges voting independently of the Republican party is the rule rather than the other way around

  • No no no no, they were always dogshit formalists who consistently pandered to the rich, law enforcement, etc. The last hallway decent court ended a half a century ago. Only people who weren’t paying attention thought they were anything but fighters for their ingroups.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the President and the Supreme Court acted like they gave a shit about our country?
