Their official position seems to be that they fired an intern, but that the intern also didn’t do anything. What actually happened?

They have issues providing commentary and caveats, and are in Chinese, ofc. And also take all of this with several boatloads of salt.
Remember to make (local) clones of these repos before gh makes them disappear when this blows up enough
