I kept saying this would happen. Citizens will be detained and eventually probably deported. Because Trump literally believes that people can just have their citizenship taken away from them on a whim.

Yep, me too all because they were brown. Racism was always the point of Trump deportation stick. And fucking mega base is loving it. We can thank those who set at the election and the never Harris crowd for now all stuck in this hellhole. Except for FlyingSquid who luckily was able to escape. But fucking people had just voted he would had to escape which probably wasn’t easy.

It is not easy, but it is something I was lucky to be able to do. Right now, no job, my savings are running out, my wife (a librarian, risking imprisonment) is still stuck in the U.S., and if I don’t find anything in a couple of months, what I do have saved up will be gone and I don’t know what we’ll do.

But yeah, a lot of people will be worse off than us and I’m sorry.

As another librarian, it’s fucking terrifying work these days. We are beloved by the people but a giant target for this administration. I loved this work for decades but I’m about to flee for industry because I’m exhausted. We’re also not super portable, library jobs are hard to come by and those outside the US are hot right now.

I’m sorry too that you had to flee and go through your savings (which probably took lot time to even do) and start over in other country. I am trying to find work here in the states and having a hard time so I can’t imagine what your going through. I hope it works out for both of us. Good luck for both of us.

I am a dual citizen. Which means I can legally live in the UK.

If I don’t get a job paying at least £29,000 a year, I can’t get a family visa. My daughter can legally stay here for six months without one, but not get any public healthcare. This has already been a problem. No doctor was available on time and she ran out of one of her pills and FedEx refused to ship it on time and now she had to quit it cold turkey and is feeling the effects. Thankfully, I can step her back up again when the pills arrive today.

It’s already happened in Arizona before. It’s why Joe Arpaio was convicted – contempt for continuing to profile and round up immigrants after a court told him to stop. Pardoned by Trump.

Hey everyone! This person kept saying this would happen!

I mean why didn’t we just listen to this specific one commenter? They kept saying this would happen. As if no one else could have anticipated it.

When will we learn to listen to [random commenter].

I worry for a cousin of mine.

He’s Vietnamese and was adopted by my aunt and uncle about 15 years ago or so. By all accounts he’s now a U.S. citizen. He’s in college. Doing great.

But he IS brown. I’m pretty sure my uncle voted for trump for some dumbass reason. I worry my cousin could be caught up in some raid at some point.

I’m white and hang out with mostly white people who don’t understand how scary this is.

I ask them if they can prove to me - right now - that they’re a citizen. Lots of them legitimately think a Driver’s License is enough.

I explain that it is not proof of citizenship and that lots of people have licenses without being a citizen. So if they were brown, they might be arrested based on their lack of papers.

And once arrested and sent to a camp, your ability to produce any documentation you may have diminishes to almost nothing.

Also, a bad agent can just get rid of your passport. So carry a photocopy, and let the lawyer your family gets show up with the real one in court.

Get a passport card. It’s valid ID, proves you’re a citizen, and doesn’t have your address on it so cops and the fascists from ICE don’t learn where you live. Keep the original passport somewhere secure, like you said

Demand your white friends show them their green card or birth certificate.

If you think that’s a joke, ask around. I’ve been asked that twice in my life. But because I’m not Default American™, I have to prove a lot harder that I was born here.

And if they do, tell them, “no, the long form birth certificate,” since that was demanded of Obama (and it still wasn’t enough).

Yup. Everyone is quick to forget how the US treated Irish, Italian, and Jewish people in past generations. There really is such a thing as “not white enough”, and when these jerks run out of people to pick on, that’s next.

My cousin and his wife adopted their son from Guatemala. Great kid, growing up to become an admirable adult. They’re right-wing Trump supporters in the state of Florida. I know they voted for this shit, and probably don’t conceive of the idea this could ever harm THEIR son. But all it takes is the fact that he doesn’t look American enough to some racist in a uniform for him to get snatched up in a sweep. Really hope he doesn’t face this kind of harassment, but now its become much more likely.

      Above that,

“We now know that Navajo people and enrolled members of other tribes are being detained in Phoenix and other cities by ICE,” Navajo Nation Council Speaker Crystalyne Curley said during a committee meeting on Thursday. “The reports that we have received indicate that we need to coordinate an operation or some type of response to help our enrolled tribal members here on the Navajo Nation.”

On Thursday, Navajo tribal leaders reported that they have received calls and text messages from Navajo people living in urban areas who have been stopped, questioned or detained by ICE.

State Sen. Theresa Hatathlie joined the committee meeting virtually and shared her report and concerns in Navajo. Hatathlie represents the Legislative District 6, which encompasses the Navajo Nation.

Hatathlie reported to the Council that she received a call about a case involving eight Navajo citizens who were detained for hours with no cell phones or ability to contact their families or tribes.

So, multiple elected officials are independently saying in public they’ve received multiple reports of this happening, one is saying he hasn’t been able to speak to anyone who was detained or get any information out of ICE about what they’ve done. Since ICE and other federal agencies will lie about this stuff there are going to be a lot of situations where we can’t verify exactly what was done to whom right away.
