is that harmful for my future job opportunities?? what if a company wants to see my iq and they see 86? am i not able to do a lot of things?? i mean i like linux, i’ve programmed websites and stuff so i thought i had 130 or 120 iq!!! but oh well, what will happen?? now that i know my iq?? thank you!!
If an employer wants to see your IQ, you probably do not want to work there regardless.
100 is average, with a distribution curving off in both directions. Most people are between 80 and 120.
All that the number shows is how you compare to others who wrote that particular IQ test; without more context it is virtually meaningless.
Any employer who hires based on an online IQ test result should be avoided.
I say this as someone who averages around 143 on the various IQ tests I’ve taken and find the number mostly meaningless.
Modern tests from an official testing body that are taken in person under supervision are pretty good for testing how strong your lateral thinking and reasoning abilities are compared to the average person.
Most other tests have massive blind spots skewing the results; they assume you have a bunch of very specific cultural and social knowledge that’s usually specific to university students in the midwestern USA in the 1950s.
If it’s so meaningless why don’t you share some with everyone else?
Sure… the trick to scoring high is being familiar with the type of test and what they’re looking for. Solve some puzzles on the mensa website and take a few different online IQ tests, and THEN do one of the official tests, and you’ll be more likely to know at a glance if one of your answers fits what they think it should be or not.
But for the most part, unless you’re intentionally trying to understand a learning or thinking issue you have (with the assistance of a professional psychologist), or just find them fun, there’s no reason to take them.
The only people I’ve encountered that unironically cared about IQ were the most insufferable assholes
- programming doesn’t mean you have a high IQ, I should know, I’m a pro and I’ve worked with some absolute dullards
- high IQ doesn’t mean you’re not a dumbass, I should know, i have 123 iq and am a dumbass.
- free online tests are always bullshit, the only reputable ones are paid
- how old are you that you’re worrying about this and who put this moronic worry into you?
I am also dumbass while having moderately high iq score. What a joke that is “IQ”…
IQ is a stupid pattern recognition measurement made by a eugenicist and has been used to justify racism ever since. Don’t take it too seriously, it does not measure intelligence.

Not using proper punctuation or capitalization will hurt your future job opportunities more.

Has any job interview you’ve ever gone to ever asked for an IQ? I’ve never heard of it, and it sounds like a crazy stupid idea for anyone to go for. You like linux, you’ve programmed websites. The bullshit test that your employers are going to care about are certifications. Look around at job opportunities in your area (or if you are lucky remote), see what certs are most commonly demanded, and focus on getting them. In addition whatever you go for, try and get some hands on experiences in them, projects etc… whether it’s personal.
Or say if web development is the direction you want to go… then try and find a friend or family member that needs a web site or project made… make them a “client” so that you can claim it as “work experience”.
Honestly in my experience in IT… generally speaking when it comes to getting a job, in order of value “work experience” > Certifications > Primary education (IE Degree/diploma).
IQ test, I’ve never once in my life come across that question coming up… just don’t advertise it and most likely no one will ever care.
No one will ever ask. Most people have never taken a test. Scores from free tests online will probably not be the same as those given by a neuropsych, diagnostician, etc.
And since it’s basically open to interpretations no two of those will agree anyway.
Most test takers get between 85 and 115. Be happy to be above 85.
The only thing an IQ test actually tests is your ability to do IQ tests.
Your Myers-Briggs type is the bullshit standard that’s likely to effect you job prospects. IQ is bullshit too, but it’s out of fashion bullshit.
It’s an even number so you’re fine 👍
It’s bullshit.
My IQ result was rather high, but there’s NO WAY it’s representative of my intelligence. I am, objectively, just not that smart. I know this. But my result??? Lol!
86? That’s like the double of our entire company management combined! You’ll do good.
