Madonna ‘Donna’ Kashanian, 64, was taken by plainclothes officers from her home in New Orleans

A 64-year-old Iranian woman, who has lived in the US for 47 years, was detained by immigration agents on Sunday morning while gardening outside her home in New Orleans.

According to a witness, plainclothes officers in unmarked vehicles handcuffed Madonna “Donna” Kashanian and transported her to a Mississippi jail before transferring her to the South Louisiana Ice processing center in Basile, reports Nola.

Kashanian arrived in the US in 1978 on a student visa and later applied for asylum, citing fears of persecution due to her father’s ties to the US-backed Shah of Iran. Her asylum request was ultimately denied, but she was granted a stay of removal on the condition she comply with immigration requirements, a condition her family says she always met.

They don’t actually care about pissing money away. They enjoy good people getting tortured because they hate them and do not see them as people.

They do see them as people, but specifically bad people. A non-person would be beneath their notice. A bad person on the other hand, becomes the target of their wrath and cruelty and it is justified to do this to them because they are bad.

The Trumper cult will hate and kill at any cost. That’s their main MO, hatred and to inflict pain. They are 100% objectively bad people.

In a lot of situations there are just good people in bad situations, but no, these are, by any measure, simply bad (sub)humans. They are irredeemable sociopaths and a net negative on society.

Democratic administrations actually deported more people than Republicans. But the difference is that Democrats do so with case by case consideration and by the book; Republicans, meanwhile, wants to do away with the bureaucracy and blanket deport anyone who have any iota of questionable immigration status. This is precisely what Trumpers want-- get rid of people they don’t like by doing away with the rules that hinder their desires.

I don’t understand why they denied her asylum. The case seems really straightforward.

Likely because her reasoning and fears were at odds with our geopolitics. It’d be like us accepting South Korean refugees for their fear of North Korean reprisal…if North Korea had largely been subsumed and the war was over for several years.

Your analogy makes no sense. This woman came here in 1978 and the Shah was booted in 1979. It is entirely believable that she would have faced reprisals in Iran during the massacres of 1981.

I don’t know why this woman was denied asylum but her request was well justified by events.

She first came in as a student in 78 but applied for asylum later. And that kind of thing can take a long time to process, years even.

To put it more directly, accepting her request would be a tacit admission that US foreign policy made Iran a more dangerous place, not by accident, but as a side effect of its success.

The US has swaths of Iranian refugees both new and old. They probably ran her claims and determined that she would not be in direct danger. I have been heavily involved in the refugee community for a long time.

She arrived before the Iranian revolution. Going back after the revolution with a Western education means at the very least she would have been deemed very very very suspicious. And why would a new paranoid religious government take the risk at all? Easier to purge.

She left Iran as a child fleeing the persecution of the regime that enriches uranium for a nuclear weapons program.

It’s a complete travesty these ICE thugs may deport this woman to that same regime because they’re trying to meet a fucking quota.

But sure, good joke bro. The Ayatollah is the good guy because US is the bad guy. Ever consider they might both be bad guys and this woman is going to suffer because of it?

What’s the Ayatollah regime’s excuse for beating women to death for showing their hair? That regime may not be the good guys…

Sorry, I didn’t realize this story about an innocent women potentially being deported to a country that beats women to death was intended to be a feel good jokey kind of thread. My mistake, I guess.

No one said it was a “feel good” story. The other person is using sarcasm to cope. Something very common and also shown in other comments of this story.

If you don’t like it, don’t respond. No one is forcing you to provide an opinion on everything. Be less of a dick.

installed by the US? That one?

that enriches uranium for a nuclear weapons program.

No evidence of this. But they will now. And good for them. Attacked by not one, but two international lunatic terrorist regimes, wouldn’t you?

No she was fleeing the current regime, the one that beats women to death for showing their hair.

          No evidence of this.

Only if you ignore the IAEA, how nuclear reactors work, and the fact that none of the uranium enriched in Iran is used in their one nuclear reactor (they use uranium imported from Russia for that) because it’s not suitable for civilian use. You don’t enrich uranium above 5% when it’s for civilian use, LOL.

Still waiting for the criminals and bad hombres to be taken. Seems these white little terrorists are acting with impunity…again.

But us black folk would know what that looks like wouldn’t we.

Just sad that NOW Hispanics and other minorities (especially the pick mes) are truly seeing it.
