A lot of his contemporaries were also incredible artists that don’t get the recognition they deserve- NC Wyeth, Howard Pyle, Thomas Anshutz. The one exception that became a household name is Norman Rockwell. Some of it is because they were illustrators (commissioned for print/reproduction) rather than fine artists, but mainly because the the titans of art at this time were the likes of Picasso, Matisse and Duchamp and their radical new visions made representational art look dated and stale.
