25 years ago in my hometown in Hungary, my dad literally had to cut through the snow so I could get around. Snow was waist deep for him, and while that was a somewhat extreme winter (as in, the amount of snow we would get), up until around 2008-2010 winters would be proper cold and have snow.

In the past 15 years we’ve had proper snow maybe once or twice, and even that disappears into disgusting slag within a day or two. That is if temperatures drop below 0C in December which doesn’t really happen nowadays.

Yeah same here. We used to have about 40-60cm of snow each winter about 15-20 years ago. We barely even get snow anymore. It just rains in the winter and it’s fucking depressing.

We used to go to school on skis at least a few weeks at a time. Last year it had a bit of snow for almost two weeks. And that was a lot compared to the past 10 years

I’ve posted an original newspaper frontpage on my livingroom wall. It’s from the late 1980s, the year and date I was born. It’s got a giant photo of a wall of snow, with a small opening dug through it so that a car can pass through.

Title says: Patience! We will have Mediterranean weather in 50 years.

It’s only December 9 and the Chicago area has already had nearly 2 feet of snow fall. It’s going to be a looooooooong winter this year.

  • It’s been colder this first week of December than the whole winter was last year where I am. ‍But not colder than it ever has been. It regularly got this cold in the 90s. I remember my dad having to put insulation on the pipes outside for the lawn spigot because it would freeze over and break the pipes.

I mean, the snow part of the winter festivity iconography has had it’s run anyway.

Snow on Christmas? That’s pre-internet for me.

Over the River and Through the Woods was originally a Thanksgiving song.

About a century later, White Christmas was about a Vermont ski resort that didn’t have snow until December.
