The man has actually combined the two! Avatar: go to space in order to go under water. The Abyss: Aliens come from space in order to live under water.
Also not with space but Titanic: build a massive model and sink it, so I can justify a budget to buy a submersible.

I don’t know about the third one (I haven’t even seen it), but the second one made huge advances in rendering water (among other things). There’s a pretty interesting Corridor Crew video about it:
I was disappointed by The Way of Water. For a guy who’s spent more time undersea than… basically anyone who isn’t a navy soldier in a submarine… it doesn’t really come across in the movie. I mean, we didn’t even see coral bleaching! In what is supposed to be an anti-colonial environmental movie!

Actually ☝️🤓, that is a common urban myth. We have mapped virtually everything down there, we were not everywhere with submarines and cameras but as far as i know virtually all of the deep sea has been mapped from the surface and the general consensus is that there is nothing spectacular or extraordinary down there.
Maybe an unusual or unknown species here and there, but nothing like some unknown frontier for mankind with potentially revolutionary discoveries.

Silly fallacy. What about the deep abysses on planets we don’t yet know exist?
If we’re being nitpicky and technical, stick to the moons of Jupiter. Anything outside our solar system is practically inaccessible (baring the discovery of a frankly ludicrous loophole in relativity). Information that can’t be discovered with telescopes is gonna stay undiscovered. The deep ocean and the little shoal of our planetary neighbors at least has the potential for further study.
