Much government cheese is stored in “Missouri cheese caves”,[10] underground warehouses for storing and aging cheese in and around the Midwestern state of Missouri, part of a national network of such facilities.[11] An erroneous article by Modern Farmer began circulating on social media in 2022 implying all of the USDA’s 1.5 billion pounds of cheese was stored in caves near Springfield, Missouri.[12][13]
The US has it too.

I know where I’m going when the zombie apocalypse hits.
Enjoy your constipation!
Very interesting !
I want a cheese cave…
Can’t we solve this problem like Elon would solve the problem and simply store the cheese in space?
Honestly storing cheese in space makes more sense than putting data centers in space
Due to orbital decay, it ends up raining fondue. It’s a huge mess.
You’re right. We’d better store different cheeses together with some white wine, an assortment of spices and a bit of Kirschwasser. If it’s going to be raining fondue, we may as well do it in style!
I’d watch that as a gritty sci fi comedy

The moon isn’t made of cheese … yet!
Only after announcing the cheese will be on Mars next year. Every year
“The first cheese to reach Mars!”
I want quicker access to cheese than space.
There will be a cannon attached that can fire the cheese directly to your doorstep with a little parachute attached for safe landing.
Okay, I’m in
Then what would Italy be known for without it’s cheese?
italy is cheese?
Tbh the possesive form of “it” is a bitch. For all other words you do 's to indicate possession, but for this exact word you leave out the apostrophe. Whether vs weather, their, there, vs they’re, or your vs you’re, they all have nothing on this contra intuitive POS of a rule.
Also the correct response to your comment would be: always has been
For all other words you do 's to indicate possession
Only if the words are nouns, not for pronouns. “Its” is a possessive pronoun, like his, hers, ours, yours, theirs. None of those words use apostrophes.
Motherforking shirtballs! You made it make sense. Of cause “it” is a pronoun, and thus follows pronoun rules. Thank you.
No problem! Fwiw, I think you’re definitely right that it’s unintuitive, as is the English language’s love of homonyms in general. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for non-native speakers.
Specifically because it conflicts with the contraction “it’s”, at least that’s how I remember.

it’s interesting how non-native speakers almost never confuse those though
we make other kinds of mistakes, personally i really struggle with prepositions in every one of my non-native languages, because my native language doesn’t have them, but has a weird suffix system instead
Because for native speakers we confuse the homonyms. Non-natives didn’t grow up hearing all these words pronounced exactly the same.
Ah Italy is on the moon
“Once again the investor with the cheesiest portfolio comes out on top!”
eats cheese
“Oh no! I’m ruined!”
bro just peg a new stablecoin to it if it’s so liquid…
Woah woah woah, don’t you dare accuse the Italians of making liquid cheese, that’s definitely American
nah, they’d never touch this liquidity pool
Liquid assets
Tricky to leverage
Don’t worry folks, the bank is not literally made of cheese. Their source uses a less oniony headline: https://www.euronews.com/business/2026/08/11/extreme-heat-strains-italys-cheese-banks-where-parmigiano-backs-farm-loans
A single round of Parmagiano is $2000.
More like $20k!
Haha!
Bilbo! Another round of cheese for Thorin’s Dustr!
It was a play on words.
round - a drink of liquor apiece served at one time to each person in a group
and
the fact that dwarves are prodigiously hungry and thirsty
gives us:
They would each require their own round of cheese for a round served to the group, which is what Thorin called to be delivered to the table. Hence the price tag.But thank you for the earnest education on delicious cheese. The pungent, well aged cheeses have always been my favorite.
I’m a big time nerd and your joke was too nerdy for me, that’s really something!
But there were 13 dwarves…plus Bilbo and Gandolf.
What is this, The Day Today?
Oh good reference! And now for sport with Alan Partridge.
Milk isn’t sustainable.
If they’re smart, they’ll see the writing on the wall and switch to a plant based alternative. And maybe move their fermentation location to higher altitude
Milk isn’t sustainable.
meanwhile the article literally mentions that this business has been going on for 800 years in italy.
well the thing is that there weren’t 8.3 billion people in the past, and a shit ton of other pollutants
so what you’re saying is that it’s the population density that’s unsustainable? not the milk itself?
also do you have a link that it’s unsustainable? because i’m not so sure about that. the world can currently produce about 2-3x the amount of food that we actually need, i don’t see that declining by more than 60% any time soon.
unsustainable for the environment, here’s the source that you wanted. milk’s greenhouse gas emissions are very high compared to plant based alternatives, alongside land use and water consumption.
this is depending on poore-nemecek 2018, a paper with serious methodological flaws.
Milk has higher environmental impact than plant based milk ≠ milk is unsustainable.
Milk is in fact a very nutritious aliment and many parts of the world depend on it as base for nutrition.
sustainable means nothing if something that is killing the planet counts as sustainable
Is milk killing the planet? That’s news to me.
The fact that there are more sustainable alternatives to milk is not evidence that milk is unsustainable.
Do you think the amount of cheese eaten in Italy might have increased a bit over the last 800 years?
Oh, so we can all eat cheese that tastes like window caulk.
You could always eat window caulk directly if it’s that important to you
Damn, Popular Mechanics. That pronoun usage is very grade school awful.
