After 15+ years, I actually just left reddit the other day, it’s a lot more fun here. I basically stuck around for a couple local communities. Now I’m just corrupting my posts to help out their IPO.

They’re forcing you to be logged in just to view old.reddit now. So you need a phone number now. That’s not suspicious at all.

Same here. Tried to flee in the initial wave, but got sucked back in. Have many different accounts for each device. Yet, I went to old.reddit in private mode, got the login wall and thought gold riddance. Thanks reddit for reminding me.

15 years was my oldest account.

Yep. I like that this feels more like an old school forum rather than being down-voted for not pleasing advertisers.

It undid itself somehow for me. I even uninstalled the extension for old reddit and it just loads up as old without login

Honestly, I just gave up on it. It’s probably partially because of all the extensions I have.

It drove me nuts. I really stayed for the local sub. It was nice knowing what was happening around town but oh well. Gotta check if there’s one here.

Definitely check, but niche content tends not to survive here. Reddit itself used to be like this, in its own early days.

Though even on Reddit, so many niche subs look to be dying off, getting spammed by bots and disguised ads but the actual OC decreasing over time.

And a lot of young people simply eschew social media altogether, preferring instead to hang out irl. That seems ideal actually… at least in an era where you cannot trust any information online.

I get that, younger friends that I game with don’t really do social media. It’s basically just small servers on discord and whoever is local we hang out in person, so yeah I did notice that shift. The spam really got to me on reddit and it got worse and worse. Stuff like secret santa and exchanging stuff or making art for people was fun. I traded a painting for a mflb vape lol. Now it’s ad, ad, karma bot, propaganda, ad, ad, cat picture, content, data fishing ad, an onion article—I mean news, ad, etc. And this is with an ad blocker; they upped their game since they realize most people are using them so why not just make fake looking posts that are just ads right?

You know I actually wondered about if “content” creators work up an account and then sell it. There was this girl that would post videos about things in Japan, she had some noticeable pimples or whatever on her face. The last I saw it was heavily filtered pictures and now it’s about stuff in the US. Kinda like her image was copy pasted. I use facebook because siblings kids and stuff to keep up with it and occasionally watch language videos. As far as I’m concerned, facebook thinks I’m Japanese lol

I’ve been here 3 years, and have had no motivation to go back.

It’s definitely not the same - it is smaller. But I adjusted and it’s been good.

I’m actually surprised how much interaction there is here instead of being down voted by bots for criticizing a company. Heh the last post I made, someone was like I don’t know who is down voting you, someone that works for the company or a bot. And this was a small forum.

Imagine that. A business with no physical product gathers up the marketers. “How can we use words, along with the usual smoke and mirrors, to keep this empty gravy-train rolling?”. My cool “tech” companies nowadays produce healthy food.

I think we can kind of just assume that all industries are always trying to work with anyone to influence anyone

What an overwraught title. “Advertising company pitches effectiveness of their advertisements” like… yeah, that’s what they do? They’re desperately trying to figure out how to make reddit profitable because boy-fuckin’-howdy are they doomed, this is just yet another in a long line of wildly exaggerated pitches they’ve made.

Ban indiscriminately, use only company-approved AI bots, profit.

Cant wait until the mask slips and even the layman can see.

With only a little effort, a collective of like minded people could counteract this effectively.

Maybe some are already, I want to help though.

A few years ago I saw someone post a link about a more generalized promo that offers companies live alerts about keyword mentions and brand management.
