They made a pretty good choice with Viola Desmond for the 10.

King Charles is the traditional pick, but considering how well the $10 note was received, you’d think they’d pick someone better than the current king of England

Charles isn’t on Canadian currency because he’s the King of England. He’s on Canadian currency because he’s the King of Canada.

Personally, I’m all for abolishing the monarchy and creating an elected head of state. Then we should do those cool wildlife images someone else posted here.

Along with a few other titles.

Not sure who is down voting you because you are right. Charles isn’t on Canadian currency because he’s the King of England. He’s on Canadian currency because he’s the King of Canada.

        Edit: typo

They’re going to put Terry Fox on the Five. I think will likely be better received.

I suspect once people are used to that, they’ll make another try at replacing MacDonald on the Ten. If people get up in arms over that, then they have to explain why they were fine with removing Laurier, but are upset over removing MacDonald.

The Bank of Canada has had at least one monarch on the bill face since its formation.

Or any faces of any assholes. These were options we could have had instead of some fucking inbred billionaire from a family of pedophiles.

These would have been much preferred. Maybe not the goat/ram. Where’s the goose and the beaver and the big ol bear? Also why not something first Nations? Or a combination of things rather than a single one? So many better options. This nation has zero identity and decisions like this are partly why.

Any of those suggestions are 1000x better than an idiot king of another country that has no relevance to Canada.

“Our new $20 note is both visually stunning and more secure than ever.”

Yeah, they’re nice enough as a bank note goes, but I think “visually stunning” is a bit of an overstatement.

I picked up a couple silver coins with his face on them. Low key hope he doesn’t live long so they might be worth more.

Can anyone tell me what the monument on the back is? The video and article cut that out from the explanation and I feel like its probably more interesting than some old dude.

Canadian* Bank Note does get feedback from Bank of Canada on designs so I’d say it was a group effort. It’s strange that Bank of Canada likes taking all of the credit though.

I’m actually curious who specifically was the lead designer for this one, since Jorge Peral (who has designed all bank notes in recent history) retired before this note was released. I presume he had his hand in it, but how big was his role?
