and more importantly: a response to all the cis people responding to the way that trans people are responding to said Democrats’ responses
And if they aren’t able to communicate why it’s bad to be a bigot then they lack the skills to protect any of us when it matters.
All these people are saying (and have been saying since before November 2024) that “Trans lives don’t matter” - they just do so with more words.
In fact, they know that following this rhetoric will put off voters. They are playing for the MAGA side. They only came out of their holes in time for the election. I believe most of them are paid actors, but in case they are genuine they absolutely deserve a loud scolding like the one Serano provides in this.
They’re playing the same game they’ve been playing since Regan, pull everyone to the right. This is by design.
If you oppose blue no matter who in the general election, I dont care about your opinions because, intentionally or not, you’re just an opp
If the choice is between Blue Hitler Vs. Being Dippy’s Opp, I’m choosing being your opp every time. sorry. What are you gonna do about it, shoot me? Put me in a camp?
If the democrats are opponents of transgender people I will happily be an opponent.
I vote lesser evil, but if the democrats are just an equal evil then they have not earned my support.
Want to stop being opponents, well then stop apposing my people and make sure your politicians know that.
This is covered in the essay, at length. It sure is bizarre to see the same stuff it talks about as a reply in the comments section.
Yeah i saw that it was covered in the essay and thats why I said it. Its wrong to oppose Blue No Matter Who in the general, and no amount of reasoning makes it not opp behavior
Whenever I publicly criticize Democrats who flirt with or outright promote anti-trans positions, random social media accounts will appear seemingly out of thin air to insist that I must “vote blue no matter who.”
It’s you! If You read the article before commenting, you certainly didn’t understand or internalize any of it
Is the undocumented black disabled Trans woman in your city safer under the leadership of someone who is a bigot in all regards, or is she safer under the leadership of someone who is transphobic but otherwise supportive? If you cant tell the difference, then you dont mind throwing black children, disabled people, undocumented immigrants into extra harm because you couldnt see the difference. Its wrong to be transphobic, and its electorally stupid to be a bigot of any kind, but im not an opp, im still voting blue because I still see the differences.
but im not an opp,
Either you have no opps, or you are your opps’ opp
Is the undocumented black disabled Trans woman in your city safer under the leadership of someone who is a bigot in all regards, or is she safer under the leadership of someone who is transphobic but otherwise supportive?
You just invented intersectionality, but in a way that defends the oppressors. Here’s the classic example of intersectionality:
Say there’s a company. They have an office and a factory. The factory hires white men and Black men. The office hires white men and white women. Black women are not hired in any part of the company. That is an example of how someone at the intersection of two marginalized groups (Black people and Women), faces discrimination that are unique to that intersection. The company isn’t disciminating against all Black people, and they’re not discriminating against all women. But when the two are combined, NEW FORMS OF OPPRESSION ARISE
Let’s go back to your example of the undocumented gay Black autistic disabled homeless albanian furry nonbinary trans woman… SHE is going to face types of discrimination you and I would never dream of. She would have a complex multifaceted life that we would only understand the most basic contours of. Whether or not she’s “safer under the leadership of someone who is transphobic…” is just an insane hypothetical without enough details to be any use as a thought experiment.
Right, because choosing the person who will impose fewer barriers to the most marginalized amongst us in a real election between two real humans that will materially impact every american as well as the whole planet for the next 6 years minimum is siding with the oppressor.
Going back to the factory example I gave. Two companies now. One of them doesn’t hire Black women. One of them doesn’t hire any women. If someone calls to boycott both companies, and you decide to only boycott the worse of two evils, IMO you are siding with an oppressor
imagine an election between an avowed racist that’s weirdly good on trans issues, and an avowed racist that also hates trans people. As a white trans woman, I would implore you to boycott that election
I’m not who you replied to, but thanks for that explanation of intersectionality. I’m relativly privileged and haven’t ever been in a position to confront intersectionality, but I’ve certainly heard the word, and witnessed it. I wish I learned it sooner, but I’m glad that this is what I learned today. Thank you!
Hi! The Lemmy elections are coming up soon to vote on the Supreme Lemmy Mod. I’m running!
Part of my plan to make Lemmy a better place is to specifically ban you from using Lemmy.
I know that may not be a policy you’re a fan of, however, my opponent is promising to ban you AND anyone with 5 letters in their username.
Obviously, I’m the better choice to vote for, since I’ll only ban you permanently once. My opponent, will ban you permanently twice.
What a fun hypothetical you just made, now do a real one with the two people who have the capability to win the senate seat in Texas where you look at detailed policy distinctions across every issue that will affect real humans
The article and its surrounding discussion as well as your hypothetical is about something real.
Seems like you don’t like my hypothetical because you don’t believe trans people are real humans. This is wrong.
That too is covered in the article FFS
That is where they should be kept.
