    Yeah, I blame NV and Fallout 3. The female player model starts out just looking dead eyed meanwhile the male one starts looking uncanny as a whole. Also Fallout 1 and 2 did not help in that regard, my Fallout 2 characters should all have severe STDs but at least ai get free shit and can give someone death by Snu Snu.

    Back in the runescape days, I used to get tons of free shit by being a girl. When they stopped gifting, I’d convince them to come to the wild and kill them for the rest of their shit

      Also (back in the day) you needed to be for the “Recrutment Drive” quest.

      One of the mini-bosses pulled the “No man can defeat me” card so you had to show up to the challange as a chick and slap the shit out of the knight. Sir. Tiffy Cashin would give you a coupon to the make-up witch (It just opened the character creator pane) so you could change things back if you wanted to.

        Well, chances were you would need it, at least. You were given a random selection of trials every time you attempted the initiation, so you could randomly not get the “No man can defeat me” guy.

        Also, the makeover mage (who themselves swapped between male and female every few seconds, because of you have magic powers, why not have fun with it?) only let you change your sex and skin color. To change your hair you needed to go to the hairdresser and to change your default clothes you needed to go to the clothes store.

    I remember starting Genshin and given identical abilities, I preferred to look at a female character for the first few hours. I don’t project myself into games, I always feel like I’m playing the characters as themselves.

      Not the way I would have phrased it, but same. If the men are built like gorillas I play a woman. If the women are all wearing high heels and pretty much nothing otherwise I play as a man. If both options are fine it’s a 50/50, tbh.

    I’m totally the type.

    In my defense there are a lot of games in which I can play a white man.

    In Saints Row, the clothing options are better for women, and fashion is a big deal. SR4 is better about men’s apparel than SR3.

    But then I played women a lot in my TTRPG years.

      I have something similar watching movies/shows with women protagonists that are meant for women audiences. Tired of watching guy main characters ig, still totally cis tho!

    You got me, as my defence women characters often have better clothing options, hairstyles options, VA, etc. Lets a man play dress up in peace 😂

      The VA part was especially noticeable in CP2077, the male VA sounded like someone doing a stiff stereotypical mobster accent, while the woman VA was excellent, with far more emotion put into the lines, couldn’t imagine playing it any other way.

      Literally why my version of “the boss” from SR 2 Saints Row is canonically trans.

      “Let me play dress up with this mexican looking fat avatar that looks like me”… ooooor “let me make a sexy looking busty lady and put her in all kinds of cool outfits”

      yeah, I should have just ignored the character customisation aspect entirely and stayed looking like a schlub in game just to prove to myself that I’m a man.
