What a great way to frame it, I love this! I typically spend something like 60-80% of time available for a given task thinking through approaches and trade-offs, etc. Usually there comes a point when the way forward becomes clear, even obvious.

After that? Bliss. I’m snapping together a LEGO set I designed, composed of pieces I picked (maybe made one or two new ones!), and luxuriating in how it all feels, when put together.

Honda Element (okay maybe not quite “standard passenger car”) played that role for me. All wheel drive, short turn radius, reasonable height, bulletproof Honda engineering (except goddamn AC compressors, fuck!).

Thing would just cruise right through stuff that’d get pickups stuck, ones theoretically more suited to the task. Gave it to a family member around 280k miles, it got neglected then stolen and parted out, sad :(

• I intentionally stopped short of pointing you toward the parts of Lemmy I was talking about. I don’t know you - if you’re curious, you’ll find em; but I don’t know you and they aren’t “my” spaces, I’m not going to inflict you on them just to make a point, know what I mean?

• if you’re willing (feel free to tell me to fuck myself lol, given my statement above), where are you finding these “real activist groups”? I can’t say I’ve ever once seen the like online. To be fair, I tuned out of “social media” (the big platforms) more than 10 years ago and spent a considerable amount of that time jaded and uninvolved on that level.

• I really can’t understand any defence of modern Reddit whatsoever (assuming you’re defending modern Reddit, you didn’t indicate otherwise). For a long time now it’s been hilariously controlled, are you talking about subreddits that have managed to fly under the radar or something?

Hard disagree. Corporations taking L’s due to consumer choice is just about the last non-violent message we have that ever gets a response. Calling reps doesn’t matter at all, and I have no idea how changing shopping habits is expected to be harder than the degree of protesting required to achieve anything.

Many of our lives are improved by ditching the abusive relationship with these giant corporations, anyway, so the idea that it’s even strictly a burden is just not accurate.
