… Damn you.
Here comes a number of hours procrastinating tinkering with my system to make me more productive on one of the numerous side projects that I will, for sure, finish now.
I am happy with my system and won’t distrohop again, I am happy with my system and won’t distrohop again, I am happy with my system and won’t distrohop again…

Thanks for the recommendation. I did have a short stint with Geany back then, but this was nearly two decades ago now, I have since moved on.
I mean, if your beliefs in the unix philosophy are still strong enough to do away with the convenience that is (or can be…) systemd, you deserve some respect.

Damn, notepad++… I remember feeling so sad that there wasn’t a Linux version back when I ditched Windows.
Baffles me that this did not get a wildly successful native Linux version in all those years, but it’s probably too late now with VSCode and all the NeoVim fans.
Actually I just remembered that, even some 20 years ago (possibly more) in France, we used to describe OP characters in videogames as “craqués”, which could mean “broken” or “cracked”, so I was not weirded out by this one, as the meaning is similar enough.
I wonder how “cracked” came to be and whether this is one of the only contemporary instance where some French slang may have influenced the English one somehow? Probably just a coincidence.

I feel like that’s been going on from pretty much the very start, or at the very least right after they put a chokehold on OEMs for them to put windows on desktops by default. Have they been recently pushing even harder or in newer ways I’m not aware of?
Bro you’re cooked.
I don’t like “smart” features, I hate being forced to create accounts for everything, I want my data to only be local, I loathe smileys, I’d much rather talk to you face to face, I don’t know wtf is an app and why yours is just a wrapper to your webpage, pure html pages with terrible colour choices are fucking class, I say “hacker” to mean “hacker” and not “cracker”, I still don’t understand the success of tablets, and you look like a dick with your mini doomscroll machine on your wrist.
EDIT: fixing rage induced typos

Take a baseball bat to that piece of shit and stop buying terrible “smart” appliances. I know in some cases it’s getting quite hard (fucking TVs) but for a fridge? Come on now.

You don’t need an SSD if all your personal and sensitive data is in the corpo approved cloud and you just ask nicely the AI agent to access it.
Please don’t bite the bite.

I’ll read it while listening to some banging tunes one my Zune. I made the playlist using Bing, on my Windows phone, it’s so good.

Ah I thought azure was a bit older than this. My bad.
As for Teams I personally include it in the category of acquiring Skype and ruining it but you’re right, it is technically a new product that is sadly successful…

The summer intern work doing some heavy lifting here.

That’s really unsurprising. I don’t know what the MS guys are smoking but I need some urgently.
Also, has there been anything, in recent memory, that Microsoft has tried to do that was new, and has been a success?
Seems to me for the past 15 years they have just:
We are so lucky to live in a society were the merit of one’s product and company dictates their market success /s

I mean to be fair, I am making a conscious effort to stay open minded when I give advice to people, but I also personally would avoid snaps (and Flatpak, but for different reasons) altogether.
But this is more me being opinionated and strongly disagreeing with canonical practices. I don’t mind sacrificing some of the convenience because of that, but wouldn’t push it on anyone.
All this to say, I don’t know the reasons why people tell you to avoid snaps, but I can imagine at least a dozen that would be valid opinions from technically minded open source people, so I would not jump to conclusions.
The snap thing has spanned a whole drama since the beginning so there’s a heavy context behind you might not be aware of. Or maybe you are and don’t care that’s totally fine too.
It’s only a matter of time until you match that meme and there’s only one alternative.
arch btw…
Just a few bookmarks. I realise that as time goes on and the internet gets worse, there are only so many websites I am accessing now.
And also I could probably just get an offline copy of some of them. I should just get books really…
