I just don’t think that intellectual property really achieves that. It seems to me that it is a much better tool for corporate control of art and culture than for protecting small artist. Someone who is trying to pay bills with their art probably can’t afford lawyers to protect that work. That said, I don’t necessarily have a better solution other than just asking people to support artist directly instead of going through corporate middlemen

*Not op but still gonna reply. Not really? The notion that someone can own (and be entitled to control) a portion of culture is absurd. It’s very frustrating to see so many people take issue with AI as “theft” as if intellectual property were something that we should support and defend instead of being the actual tool for stealing artists work (“Property is theft” and all such). And obviously data centers are not built to be environmentally sustainable (not an expert, but I assume this could be done if they cared to do so). That said, using AI to do art so humans can work is the absolute peek of a stupid fucking ideas.

2·5 months agoWhile this is true, it should also be recognized that the system as a whole has been festering for a long time. Everytime Democrats have tried to court the so-called moderate conservative instead of actually standing for something over the last decades, they put another nail in the coffin of our democracy.

11·8 months agoThe ui is clean and intuitive and it actually handles podcasts with multiple feeds (patron/free) well (other apps I’ve used were quite annoying with that). Being able to tag all your podcasts is also really nice for organization, especially if you have a lot of podcasts that you aren’t listening to every episode of. My only complaint was that the default settings are to download a podcast when you click on it instead if stream, but that is easily changed with one setting switch

1·8 months agoHow does copyright protect privacy? I don’t see the connection there. I also just disagree that copyright is good for art. Like obviously we can’t just not pay artists (without also changing a lot else) but people should not be allowed to own parts of culture.
…how could that possibly be your takeaway from what I said? I literally never even compared them to the Nazis, just said they weren’t socialist enough
I should have clarified that I’m not against socialism, just the hierarchy of states. We should instead pursue more egalitarian socialist expressions like social ecology or kinds of anarchy.
Seems to me that about once a generation people allow the states they live in (and corporations they work for) to concentrate power to a point where it cannot be overlooked anymore? Kinda feel like you already have an answer you want tho (apologies if that’s not the case).
Power not Greed. People don’t hoard wealth just to look at a pile of coins, they do it to control other people
And unfortunately, USSR falls smack damn on the barbarism side of that divide
(Hierarchical) Power in general is the root cause, not Capitalism in particular
