LGBTQ+@beehaw.org•Straight drag queens and being straight in queer spaces?English
19·1 month agoGay guy here. I think that dedicated queer spaces exist for good reason, but straight-identifying men like you who are secure in their masculinity are not one of those reasons. If you feel a sense of belonging in those spaces and even a desire to participate, I think you should go for it. The human experience is bizarre and wonderful, and too short for gatekeeping.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the best unintentional ASMR videos?English
1·1 month agoMaybe not strictly unintentional, but I used to love watching Poppy’s YouTube channel. Her videos, especially the older ones, have pleasant ambient music and overdubbed vocals that definitely tickle the brain. The light satire is fun too, and some of the videos start to lean into the world of fashion. Her newer stuff is darker and heavier, less ASMR-like but still interesting.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How different does love really feel for people? What are your thoughts on this?English
4·1 month agoI think that the group of feelings we refer to as love can manifest in a variety of ways. Personally, I’ve had two long term relationships that were built on different kinds of love.
One was stable and secure, built on mutual trust and respect. We had fabulous communication, healthy conflict resolution, and a shared commitment to one another. There were also challenges that were bearable only because of that solid foundation.
On the other hand, I’ve experienced the passionate kind of love that gets glamorized in music and stories, or at least some degree of it. This is that falling feeling, passion, sexuality, and excitement. But that relationship was also somewhat unstable, so it was unfortunately an unsustainable feeling.
Both times, when the realization hit me that I had “fallen in love” (or developed a strong attachment, really) to this person, I was so overwhelmed and cried.
I don’t think one is necessarily preferable to the other. An intellectual connection, sexual chemistry, and shared goals are all more important to me than butterflies in my stomach.

2·2 months agoI’m surprised that the model’s benchmark performance isn’t that much worse than the base given that it’s running with 1-bit quantization. Impressive.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ubuntu 26.04 is the OS for the AI agentic era, says Canonical's Mark Shuttleworth - here's whyEnglish
14·3 months agoPeople love to shit on Ubuntu, but I do think it’s important to remember that their primary customers are enterprises. That’s what pays the bills, and it’s also the reason that it’s so well-supported. And since it’s still Linux, you can disable or remove anything you disagree with, or go with a fork that’s done that heavy lifting for you. Some companies (and individuals) will want the best-in-class Linux support for AI inference. Get over it.

Technology@lemmy.world•These AI models are free, private, and will never say 'no'English
4·3 months agoIt’s not that there aren’t some risks to LLMs that produce illicit output, but the training data that made such output possible is openly available online already. As far as the risks of flooding the web with misinformation and propaganda, well…

Technology@beehaw.org•What do I need to know about GrapheneOS?English
3·4 months agoPersonally, I could do without Google Wallet. I usually carry my credit card and ID around with me. However, Chicago’s CTA system has a pretty good mobile app and it’s easier to manage your passes and fare that way.

Technology@beehaw.org•What do I need to know about GrapheneOS?English
6·4 months agoYou will not be able to use NFC for payments. In my case, it didn’t work for public transit cards either. That’s the only thing stopping me from switching.
I have experimented with microblog.pub in the past. It’s easy to set up, and federation worked just fine for me.

Android@lemmy.world•How to add an iCal Calendar on Android (Fossify Calendar, DAVx5)? SOLVEDEnglish
1·5 months agoCreate an app-specific password for your Apple account. You can use that to log into iCloud from DAV5x with the “login with email address” option. This will add the account to your system, making it accessible from any calendar app including Fossify Calendar.

I am not in the
AI==badcamp because I believe in nuance. I see a lot of people shit on Firefox for integrating LLM-related features. What the blog post points out and people fail to recognize is that if Mozilla stopped maintaining Firefox, almost all of its forks would die. People make similar arguments about Canonical and Ubuntu. Would these people pay Mozilla or Canonical for their work? The corporate investors do. I’m not saying I agree with it all, but that’s how it works.
