Why the fuck would I want to visit the United States?

They’ve already kidnapped/ unlawfully held a Canadian citizen without anything resembling due process.

    So the proposition is:

Please come back, put money into our local economy, but we have no control over ICE kidnapping you.

Also, we want to annex you.

Also, even if we somehow get rid of Trump, we will collectively do nothing to prevent the rise of another Facist movement.

Hell, there’s no assurance that their own citizens won’t get El Salvador’d completely arbitrarily.

As one of your southern neighbors, I agree with you. This is not a safe place for you or anyone from any other country right now.

Hell, it’s not a safe place for me.

I suggest those working in tourism start voting for democrats then. Your customers aren’t going to return as long as the current weirdos are still in charge.

I wouldn’t feel safe going to the US right now. I have no guarantee that my rights would be respected. It’s just a matter of time where a tourist is sent to El Salvador to prison.

Yeah, we know. Unfortunately we have a guy up here (Poilievre) who wants to do the same thing in Canada. Canadians, please vote to prevent this man turning Canada into the same Nazi shitshow as the USA.

I believe that Trump opened up a lot of Canadian eyes to the dangers of fascism.

Unfortunately I think it also opened up alot of fascists’ eyes in how easy it is to gain power in this modern day and age

Poilievre is a socially conservative shithead, but he’s not anywhere close to Trump on the authoritarian scale. I’d like it if we could keep the hyperbole out of our politics, thanks.

I’m responding to things like this:

Canada’s Tory leader vows to deport foreigners for antisemitic crimes

Now antisemitic crimes are one thing, but he includes pro-Palestinian “hate marches” which apparently means people protesting Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the West Bank. Designating protests against Israel as hateful and critics of the Israeli government and military as antisemitic is very much a copycat Trump policy.

As a Canadian, why on earth would I visit an actively hostile nation whose Head of State has repeatedly threatened invasion and annexation?
