So you were ok with Nazis, pedophiles, murderers and Zionist settlers, but you have to draw the line at musicians.
But these musicians objected to a genocide, which obviously makes them terrorists.
It’s a business: They want to avoid controversy and this musician is controversial.
Sucks, because he is probably right or at least not wrong in his views, but this is the society we’ve all built together.
Speaking truth to power was always a revolutionary act. Seems like we’re going back to the old days.
How is calling for the death of soldiers truth to power?
I meant Theroux’ interview, not his subject. He’s not responsible for the things his interviewees say.
Theroux is responsible for whom he chooses to platform and what parts of an interview to publish. He knew this would be controversial, generate lots of clicks, and might lose him sponsors that don’t want to associated with radical rhetoric.
The guy has literally interviewed the KKK, but this is radical rhetoric too far?
Did the KKK guy defend chants to „Gas the Jews“ or similar in his interview?
Did Bobby Villain chant “death to the Jews”? Stop making false equivilence.
Did Vylan call for the deaths of jewish people or did he call death to the IDF which is entirely different?
No but…he’s a KKK guy so…did he need to?
He has interviewed neo-nazis in the past so it is odd that a rapper is the one who sets these “advertisers” off.
don’t you hate it in history class, when they talk about how good it was to kill Nazis.
Will somebody think of the poor genociders
Genociders*
Another troll for the blocklist. Why are there so many of you guys lately?
being hasbara is a full time job
British Airways outs themselves as pro-genocide and anti freedom of expression.
The airline has withdrawn its adverts from the journalist’s podcast after he interviewed Bobby Vylan – whose real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster.
On it, Vylan said he was “not regretful” of leading chants of “death, death to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces]” during a performance at the Glastonbury festival this summer. He said he would “do it again tomorrow”.
Did it get a bit close to the bone for them?
What other chants do you know that start with „death to“?
„Death to Israel“ and „Death to America“ is also popular in the Middle East.
How about in the UK or Anglosphere?
Ahh so you did know some other chants. Yes it’s no secret there’s animosity between some Middle Easterners and the US and Israel. What’s your point with all this?
Yes, those originate from Arab, Persian, and Hebrew speaking extremists.
The point is, Bob Vylan escalated the rhetoric in the English language surrounding Israel to a new level, not heard for other topics.
Calling for death is the opposite of calling for peace. It’s a call for more violence and war.
It’s also exactly what the leaders in Israel are doing and have done against the people of Palestine but I don’t see you going off about that. Guess supporting Islamophobia and genocide are more acceptable to you than calling for the end of one.
I have called for the end of the war in Gaza for a long time. I have advocated for a two state solution and Palestinians to live a life in dignity, freedom, and prosperity for decades.
The current Israeli government makes terrible decisions. Ben Gvir and Smotrich are inciting and ordering violence on an unacceptable level.
Let’s remember how we ended up here. Arafat rejected the peace deal offered. The second intifada destroyed the peace camp in Israel. Olmert‘s offer was rejected as well. Hamas followed a policy of war instead of building a future for Gazans.
It doesn’t have to be extreme. It can be a call to end the genocidal apartheid oppression that has been Israel. But as I understand it he called for “death to the IDF”, not even death to Israel, and clarified it as a call for an end to the organization that is perpetrating Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. There’s nothing extreme about this. It’s about protecting people from the most extreme brutality.
It also depends on whether you take the word “death” literally, or simply meaning the end of. For example, when people say “death to America!” they aren’t necessarily advocating for the death of every single American, but rather the collapse of the United States in its current form.
It isn’t an extremist position to oppose the seizure of your grandfather’s home due the racist revanchism of an ethno-religious group.
Yeah, war on fascists and genocidal freaks. Die with them if you want.
Watch Bob Vylan gleefully smile, when he defends his slogan.
Did you listen to his words?
