So lately I’ve been working on getting things set up to survive long term. I’m building my whole basement into a hydroponic farm with zero outside help. It’s been a hell of a challenge because I have some major issues with executive dysfunction, motivation, etc. but it’s also something I’ve been wanting to do in some capacity since my early adulthood (I’ve scaled way way way down as life happened).

But I’ve been making progress. A few hours a day, even. It’s not all the things I need to do, and most of them are things I don’t particularly want to do either, but any progress is good progress. Everything I do today is one fewer things I need to do later when the need is more pressing. And that, at least, feels good. Knowing that all I have to do later is move this thing to its final home, makes it easier to make/set up the thing now.

So tell me about some progress you’ve been making that isn’t “as good as it should be” based on arbitrary external metrics, but gets you one or more steps closer to your personal goals (no employment-related stuff please, personal goals are for your own fulfillment, not your company.)

Kinda working on a couple of things in parallel on my end, but right now my main two “projects” are:

Working through “Beyond Cracking the Coding Interview” in the hopes of landing a better job for myself next year :finger_crossed: I’m up to chapter 5 right now, but it’s a pretty nice read. I’ve been using a site called StudyStream to dedicate an hour of study time every morning before work, and so far, it seems to be working (:

Using the website “Tonedear” to learn the difference between different notes and chords by ear. I started only last week, and couldn’t really make sense of it at first, but after doing it every day, I think it’s working! I can tell the difference between B,C,D,E with 100% accuracy for the most part.

For chord intervals, I could tell the difference between major and minor really easily, so I started practice with major 7th and minor 7th in the mix. But I can’t tell the difference between them for the life of me lol. I’ll probably add something else as a third chord instead from tomorrow.

That’s neat! I love the building of new skills! They are great for your brain. Like brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand to build new neural connections.

It’s never too late to start reshaping your brain so I’m pumped you are doing that, it sounds fun!

Do you plan to use that skill for anything, or just for funsies?

Yep! I’ve been learning the guitar since last year. My current goal with it is to be able to play any songs by ear (or at least, cover the on the spot)

So i figured this is probably important to learn too, and started practicing it daily
