Other niche HTTP codes:
420: Enhance Your Calm (used by twitter to rate limit clients, reference to cannabis culture)
451: Unavailable due to legal reasons (now an official code! reference to Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 in which books are illegal)
“Enhance Your Calm” is official as well, it’s a HTTP/2 error code.
Pretty sure it’s primarily a Demolition Man reference.

“Sir, this is a Wendy’s” is a 418 I’m a Teapot meme for fast food slobs.

Also of interest in this regard is IP over Avian Carriers.
Here’s the obligatory upvote for referencing http.cat
Er, wut?
It’s an April fool’s joke from… 50 ish years ago. Hypertext teapot control protocol. Status code 418 was supposed to be what happens if you try to get it to brew a cup of coffee. It cannot brew coffee, it is a teapot.
“This is a Wendy’s” is a response to wildly off-topic remarks, similar in case to 418
You have your sense of time a bit out of whack.
Development of HTTP was initiated in 1989.
Which was clearly like 12 or so years ago, right? … right? crumbles to dust
That was 100% me transposing the numbers xD I thought it said 1989 for the joke, it was 1998. Also I did the math wrong and said 50 instead of 40, two fuck-ups for the price of one!
I was extremely disappointed that HA proxy won’t let you return 418.
Pretty sure that you can use it with a CloudFlare custom error page.
