Obama was not just a black president, but a well-spoken, intelligent, knowledgeable black president who navigated the US out of the subprime mortgage crisis and won a second term despite all efforts by the GOP to wreck his chances.
Granted, he still abused the disposition matrix, failed at his promise of executive transparency, ratcheted up surveillance of Americans to eleven and stuck to neoliberal policies which still pulled wealth up from the working class to the ownership class, but the conservatives and Republicans had no complaint about any of this. These grievances came from the left.
But how dare he be a black man, and far more competent than Bush!? (Curiously, he got a Nobel Peace Prize just for not being Bush. Even Obama was surprised and admitted he hoped to earn it during his tenure.)
