I used to have a cat who loved to sit on keyboards, so I set one of my old ones up on a stand above and behind my actual keyboard, and she would come up and hang out on it while I worked. I would often have a switch up there as well, and she’d rest her head on it, so I called her my netcat daemon. I miss her.

I assumed that cats did this because they wanted attention, not because they like sitting on laptops. Plus, the decoy laptop doesn’t have any parts that will get warm.

I’d figure this a case of ‘i will just try anything that allows me to use my laptop’, if that’s true OP will just try something else.
