  • Week is going good!
Having a random Tuesday off always screws up the vibe, though.
My brother recently convinced me to start playing WarThunder, so I’ve been spending a bit more time than I would want playing that… It is fun so far, though! I have another friend who has played for a long time and we’re trying to find a time when all 3 of us can squad up. I’ve stayed up way past my bedtime every day this week, oops.

I got my flu shot yesterday, and it always makes me super drowsy and sore and lethargic the next couple days, so I’m dealing with that, too.

  • I recently made some caramel from scratch to make a warm caramel apple dip, and it wasn’t quite as hard as I imagined, and was super tasty, so I’m thinking I might try and make some homemade candy this year.
My immediate family isn’t big on gifts, but one of the things I do every year is find the most unhinged or weird mugs at thrift shops and give everyone a mug with some hot chocolate, candy canes, and other treats. Having some home-made treats in there for a change would be fun!

  • See that’s the thing, I don’t… In college I played the bass in a joke band, but I don’t actually know “how” to play the bass (or the guitar), properly at least, don’t know anything about music, production, etc. I’m really excited to just completely wing it. I have really good rhythm and was able to learn songs by ear on bass with basic trial-and-error and memorization in the past, interested to see how this translates. A big draw has been the thought of making my own homemade microphones out of random trash and sampling interesting sounds with them. I’ve got a few ideas to run with.

I was instantly intrigued by the name “Ancient Infinity Orchestra”, and I really really like this. I’m a sucker for lots of wind instruments.

  • Sorry for being absent from the past couple threads, I was traveling and busy and it’s just been crazy.

The song Universal Flame by Devin Townsend passed through to say hi while shuffling my entire library the other day and I always forget how much I absolutely love this song.

I have suddenly developed the urge to make experimental/noise music… so I’ve been acquiring weird old equipment, like an old Korg Microkorg, a bunch of guitar pedals, and the sketchiest guitar I’ve ever seen. Turns out a friend I’ve started hanging out with regularly already has his own experimental/noise project, so we’re definitely going to share some ideas. He told me the name of his project but we were really high so of course I forgot lol. I’ll be back to plug his stuff next week it sounded pretty cool.

  • I feel this.
I have had the same 4GB Kingston USB2.0 stick hanging off my keyring for what feels like the last 15 years or so, and it just continues to work perfectly fine… But yet every single modern USB stick I have feels like it wants to die at any moment. I bought a 5 pack of 16GB sandisk cruzr glides at a thrift shop for $5 last year, you know the ones, black housing, red slider to pop the USB part out… Only 2 of them still work. I’ve gone through about 5 32GB microcenter sticks in the last couple years, and had one 128GB microcenter stick go bad just recently. I also have a 1GB Lexar USB2.0 stick that I got in 2006 and it also still works perfectly fine despite looking like it got run over by a truck. It’s been the 3d printer usb stick for like 5 years now, no signs of quitting.

I am constantly on the edge of just dropping big bucks on a 64 or 128GB stick from someplace with a warranty like Cactus Tech or something and hopefully just never worrying about it again.

  • I’ve been trying to produce less waste and use my own insulated cup for coffee at work, even though they provide paper cups and lids. Sometimes I forget though or I am out on the production floor and don’t want to have to walk all the way back to my desk to get my cup.
Recently, though, the cafeteria had gotten a different paper cup than what they’ve always had, and although it looks similar, it is insanely flimsy. I have spilled coffee on my desk 3 times in the past 2 weeks because I go to grab the cup and it just crumples and the cover flies off… I am eyeing the current paper cup of coffee on my desk right now begging it to not be the 4th spill. It’s honestly kinda funny at this point. As soon as my deskmat dried out, BAM more coffee. Luckily it is black with a dark grey pattern, so no stains (yet). I had a blue/yellow deskmat at home at one point and after only a few months it looked nasty.

Other than that, the weeks have really just been flying by. How is it already the 2nd week of October? It is very cold today compared to the weather as of late. Tonight we will likely get our first frost. I plan on going for a hike after work, excited to layer up and have a nice cozy jaunt.

  • If I have to pick an absolute all-time lifetime favorite game, I would have to take the coward’s way out and give 2 related answers…

SanFransisco Rush 2049 and Toy Commander for the Sega Dreamcast.

Those were the 2 games my brother and I grew up playing, we sunk thousands of hours into each and would make up our own imaginary game modes and just fart around and try to 100% the games.
I still have our original Dreamcast and the original game disks. Technically my brother has the DC right now because he was unemployed for a couple months not too long ago and got into Toy Commander speedrunning lol

Just the memories associated with these games, they’re so close to my heart. Recently I’ve been leaning more on my family for support instead of trying to fight the good fight alone, so I’ve been hanging out with my brother a lot, and we still make references to these games even ~20+ years later.

Plus, I can still pick up Rush 2049 and have a grand ol’ time. Toy Commander doesn’t hold my attention as much anymore, but him and I still play together occasionally when I am at his house.
