Are you kidding me?

President Donald Trump’s administration on Wednesday ordered a halt to New York City’s congestion pricing system, which thins traffic and funds mass transit by imposing high tolls on drivers entering some parts of Manhattan.

Launched on Jan. 5, the city’s system uses license plate readers to impose a $9 toll on most passenger cars entering Manhattan neighborhoods south of Central Park. In its early days, transit officials say the toll has brought modest but measurable traffic reductions.

Funny how they run on this mythic yesteryear of the fifties… yet neglect the notion that the fifties were funded by the highest wealth taxes, street cars were everywhere, and there were MASSIVE public works projects EVERYWHERE.

What authority do the feds have here? More nonsense to demoralize and distract.

The interstate bridges and tunnels that go into New York City are owned and run by the Port Authority, which has federal oversight in addition to oversight from the states of New Jersey and New York.

What does this have to do with the downtown congestion pricing?

The bridges and tunnels are where they collect the tolls for people coming into Manhattan. Also, on the ferries, which are also run by the Port Authority

Yeah, except the Mayor has committed a bunch of federal crimes and Trump is having them dismissed in exchange for his cooperation.

They’re being dismissed without prejudice so they can be refiled at any time.

It’s highly unlikely that the Mayor will do anything that’s not in Trump’s best interest for as long as he is in office.

Are you sure you’re not talking about the wrong toll? I haven’t been to NYC recently enough so don’t know how they implemented congestion tolls, but that’s different from the tunnel and bridge tolls.

All I can find online is “MTA installed license plate readers around the city”

You know…I kinda think it’s time we tell him to pound sand. Fucking seriously, who’s going to enforce it? The defunded letter agencies?

Just add it to Mayor Adams’s quid pro quo list. Much like I bet he’s going to run for governor on the “I’ll pardon Trump” platform.

Probably, then when they don’t they’ll blame those agencies, I’m not sure why else other than to create divide.

Enforcing the congestion pricing does take people and money. I’m not sure how much NYC was getting from the feds to do this but it’s probably something.

No matter how they spin it, main reason for doing congestion pricing was to fight how slow both emergency response and mass transit was getting.

Literally killing people, rich and poor alike.

Hey NYC drivers, just purposely cause traffic. Sit in your car in the middle of the road - by the tens of thousands. You let him take one thing from you, and you’re giving him permission to take everything from you.

This is the dumbest thing… Why should I have to walk past disgusting vehicles belching exhaust while going nowhere?

We should just ban personal vehicles in Manhattan it makes no sense when this city has the best public transit in the US… ditch car infrastructure, and build cheap $900 a month apartments that people can sustainably live in.

It’s a bummer that New York City has to fund welfare for states that hate them so much, like Kentucky, Mississippi, and Alabama. If that weren’t the case it would be much easier to fund transit improvements.

Those states would be worse off if states like NY or CA decided to secede one day, though I’m aware that’s nearly impossible to do. What’s crazy to me is that the states that contribute most are the ones most shitted on for being “too liberal.”

If NY were run by MAGA, I bet the economy would tank and it wouldn’t be able to contribute anything to the states that are already poor.

States that are done with President Musk can just stop paying federal taxes, stop accepting federal money, and stop federal taxes from being deducted from the wages of employees in the state. Fire their congressmen and senators. Let’s do it.

        Yes.

Not only that is that they were filed to be dismissed without prejudice so, if he doesn’t cooperate, they can simply refile the charges and throw him in prison.

Totally normal and healthy open corruption

Federal government has to approve tolls on interstates and Trump revoked the approval given by the previous administration. Though the other poster isn’t exactly wrong with the mayor Adams thing. That’s probably how they’ll ensure the toll booths don’t just move 2 ft off the interstate onto city/state property

In a statement, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced the federal government has rescinded its approval of the program, calling it “slap in the face to working class Americans and small business owners.”

At first I was wondering when Sean P Diddy Combs was appointed Transportation Secretary. I get that he is accused of sexual assaults which is a great qualification but still…
