Please note that NSFW/NSFL videos must be labeled as such or they will be deleted

Edit: also keep in mind that initial information in these situations can often be inaccurate. Trusted outlets have conflicting reports about whether a suspect has been detained.

Edit 2: the campus has officially stated they release the initial subject. Donald Trump has stated Charlie Kirk is dead.

For anyone who is curious but might not want to watch the video, here’s a description I found that a friend of mine who watched it says is accurate:

        Description

he got shot in the neck by a high powered rifle and instantly litres of blood spewed out as he slumped over. He likely won’t survive.

This is an extremely legitimately trigger warning worthy video clip.

But if someone’s gonna make some wisecrack comment celebrating/endorsing acts of violence, they should definitely watch it to see the sick reality of what they’re celebrating.

Kirk is (was?) a piece of shit, but the armchair judges, juries, and wannabe executioners around here need a reality check.

Yep. Arm up, stockpile supplies, get in shape.

And think about your Red Lines. I have 2. I have family who belong to vulnerable groups who are particularly hated and targeted by MAGA, and if anything were to happen to them, I would have nothing left to lose, and I will become very dangerous.

My second Red Line is if they use ANY excuse to cancel/suspend elections. This country has NEVER cancelled an election, not even during the Civil War. If elections are cancelled or suspended, that is OFFICIALLY the end of the United States. At that point, I do not recognize any laws or any sovereignty by the MAGA government. I will not pay taxes, I will steal everything I can my hands on, I will vandalize any MAGA property, and if it gets hot, and gunfire erupts, I’m ready mentally, and I’ve been an excellent shot my entire life.

As an older person, I have had the revelation that the end of my life will probably include a twist ending that I never anticipated until now, and I have accepted that. In fact, I now think that dying peacefully in my bed as an old man, while America becomes Nazi, would be waste. I’d rather my death accomplish something.

Other Red Lines are starting to form in my mind as well.

          I watched it. Felt nothing.

I’ve been hyper-aware of the possibility of a school shooting since I was in grade school. I’ve watched Palestinians be murdered for over ten years. I’ve watched poor young Russian idiots and Ukrainian soldiers blown apart for the past three years. And I just saw one of the biggest cheerleaders of all that in the States killed.

“Sick reality” has nothing on it. A piece of shit who advocated for and contributed to the shittiest of shitty policy in the US, which has led to the deaths of numerous other people, was killed, and by one of the shitty policies he himself advocated (political violence or gun proliferation, as you prefer).

This isn’t even getting into the ‘less’ severe domestic dangers he was part of pushing forward - the concentration camps for immigrants, the rampant dehumanization of LGBTQ folk, the stripping of medical assistance to the filthy poors who are too sick to be worth keeping alive.

          Fuck him.

There’s a fine line between advocating for violence, and being aware that violence is going to happen whether we want it to or not. As someone else mentioned, the Right Wingers are absolutely ready to pull the trigger and it’s naive for people on the left to think “It won’t happen to me, so why bother being ready.”

I look at this killing the way I look at Luigi; I’m not going to shed a tear for the victim. He had it coming to him and then some. And I hope the shooter never gets found because fuck Charlie Kirk.

I’m not saying there needs to be all out revolution. But actions such as this killing are good in that they make the other side realize that “yes…we are ready…and you’re not safe if you keep trying your shit”.

I think people missed the point of your comment. I see many, many comments on here advocating or endorsing violent action against fascism.

Okay fine, but if you can’t stomach a video of it, let alone witness it in person, why are you calling for it?

That’s like asking why someone with a tumor is calling for a surgeon to cut it out, even if that person isn’t themself a surgeon.

Lots of people would be extremely uncomfortable watching a major surgery, but that doesn’t and shouldn’t stop them from coming to the OR when they need one. Nor should they be forced to see footage of their operation.

We have a fascism problem, and personally I’m thankful we have people with the aptitude and fortitude to address it, regardless of my own ability or lack thereof in that area.

          I…what?

How else would you define ‘gory’?

I am genuienly curious, you have a definition of gore…that is not fundamentally based in a human realizing something is very, very wrong with another living being?

Like… your blood is generally supposed to stay inside you. Blood is generally considered more gory the more of it there is.

Alright. Gore is the inside squishy bits of the body you shouldn’t see: muscles, torn flesh, whatnot. You see someone’s brains or a stump where an appendage was just separated, that’s gore.

Blood is… well… blood. In context it’s alarming, but ultimately it’s just a bunch of opaque red liquid.

I think also that people watch a lot of simulated murders on TV, and they kind of don’t know what its like to watch a person die. Like Tarantino will make geysers of blood look very cool, treehouse of horror makes explosions of organs funny, etc. The amount of blood, at least for that context, is some but in normal bounds. I would say the part that is pretty terrifying for me, is that there are small things, like the way he flops back, the way he’s cut off… the simulations haven’t prepared people for this.

                  • Watching a video of someone die is very different from watching it irl.

A video, your brain would juat categorize it with the TV stuff so you don’t really feel much.

Its better this way, people need to stop dancing around the topic of death. Just accept it as a fact and its easier to live life that way, instead of under a veil of lies and the cutsy “heaven” bs.

So to you, only blood spatter is gory?

Not actually just watching something like 1/3 to 1/2 his blood exit his body in maybe 3 seconds tops?

Like if a guy shat out all his intenstines, but … they went off camera, neatly into a bucket… that wouldn’t be gory?

Again I am just curious about this, different people are disgusted by different things, draw the lines in different ways I guess.

Agreed that people draw the lines in different ways. For me personally, the video is bloody, not gory. It’d be gory if there was viscera clearly visible.

I guess I watched enough videos from Ukraine and Gaza these past 3 years to be more desensitized. That wasn’t that bad – and key point – relative to what else I’ve seen. My partner also works in trauma medicine, so we discuss a lot of stuff.

In some respects, I think conservatives who have a fetish for guns should witness the true damage they inflict.

It’s honestly not as bad as I expected. The amount of blood reminds me of the historic Bud Dwyer video. -If i were to speculate i’d say it looks like Kirk had a very sudden and near total loss of blood pressure to his head when he was hit which leads me to think that he probably lost consciousnous before he knew what hit him.

I am not a medical professional. Nervous system was instantly affected and his body flung to the so callev teapot arms position. You are VERY unlikely to survive a shot like that under the BEST care in the world given that as we all can see, no amount of pressure on the wound can stop the blood loss. The last 5-6 seconds of your life are just a fade to black, pain is no longer a concept for your brain, you got quite literally unplugged and your body never knows what happened.
