Democrats on the congressional Joint Economic Committee released a report Thursday detailing how much more the average American family in every US state is having to spend monthly to cover the rising costs of food, shelter, energy, and other necessities under the leadership of President Donald Trump. The panel released its report on the same day the Trump administration was supposed to…

Deploying the same methodology that Republicans used to track cost increases under former President Joe Biden, JEC Democrats found that the average US family is spending roughly $700 more per month on basic items since Trump took office in January, pledging to bring prices “way down.”

Smart to use their methodology. That way they can’t call it flawed. Well they can but they’ll sound stupid

na, Democrats always lie, even they use the same methodology, if a Democrat said it is automatically a lie /s

I got you. You see, Trump ran on the slogan “make America great again”. And what the person above you commented was that same slogan, except they added parentheses and additional words to ammend the slogan to “makeing American cost of living greater again”. Which implies trump is actually increasing the cost of living in America as opposed to actually making it great.

Hope that clears it up for you.

This quote has stayed with me for years now:

“The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn’t even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it.”

I downvoted you because your blatant sarcasm wasn’t punctuated with a “/s”, so there was a 0.007% chance you were being sincere.

Context maybe, and a bit of critical thinking?

Look at the subject of the thread, and look at what they said. It’s clearly not something a MAGA on Lemmy would post in response to a news article critical of Trump, but a parody of what a MAGA would have said that led to the situation being described by the article.

But shit, for whatever reason people on Lemmy see a few downvotes, immediately take that as evidence that it’s a serious comment, and don’t give it a second thought. It’s all over the place here.

    That’s a lot of money.

I mean that’s about 12k pre tax to afford the 8.4k increase in costs. 18% of the median income in just increases, not total costs!

How are most people able to swing that if the median income is 66k ?

So you know how there’s the story of the underage girl prostituting herself to a congressperson for money for braces?

Exploitation. That’s how people are intended, nay, expected, to ‘swing it.’

Invading Venezuela, giving cash to Argentina and golfing are the top priorities. I hope the Red Oblasts get hit the hardest.

Like Iraq, like Libya, like Syria, invading Venezuela has bipartisan support. The most you see from the dems are technical nitpicks about the way Trump is pursuing hostilities. Not one said “we should end the blockade and resume trade with Venezuela”.

let’s play a game: which will come first? civil unrest, 2% interest rates or midterm elections?

we’re not the only ones playing that game.
