I should sell privacy focused PCs with pre-installed Linux installations. None of my friends are even aware this is an option. All they do is buy a new PC and then be angry about Microsoft.
MS have no real product worth it. All they do is steal ideas and fuck it up, every time. Such a shit company. Too bad I need it for work, bit once I find the workaround, I’ll finally main fedora.

In SciFi stories, AI is so scary because it can be perfectly charismatic and convincing as it takes over the world. It can tell scientists and business owners and political leaders whatever they need to hear to hand over the keys, and then replace them when they are no longer needed.
They’ve managed to recreate this plotline in real life, but not with a super intelligence that can out-think the smartest people in the world. Instead they’re brainwashing themselves with a fucking magic 8-ball that convinces them they’re inventing new types of math.
These articles could have “Data Collection” substituted for “AI” and be more accurate most of the time.
Fury could push back the rollout of their plans but it won‘t stop them. Ditch Windows or learn to be happy with your agentic OS that can be hacked with an insert prompt.
Only way to stop them is to stop using Windows.

Side effects may include: delusions, thoughts of suicide, and economic and environmental collapse. Do not take Agentic if you are pregnant, nursing, or allergic to bullshit. Ask your middle manager if Agentic is right for you.
I love it, like so many other buzzwords before it, it lets me know I can immediately disregard anything the speaker says or has previously said, and blacklist any project or concept related to it. My time is really valuable, increasingly so in an age of AI, and “agentic” is a huge time saver for me.
I prefer the word Intrusive
I’m not against innovation in desktop computers I just struggle to understand the use-case for an Agentic OS. I don’t know how it would improve anything especially considering how confidently incorrect LLMs are (by nature!)

It’s an excuse to collect more data for training their AI models. They somehow need to justify to send all your documents, your data to their servers.
They used all data available on the Internet and that still is not enough. Humans don’t have fraction of the fraction of the fraction of that data, yet still can be intelligent. I would think that it would be enough proof that this is a dead end.
Maybe I haven’t updated Windows 11 enough yet. I’ve always been avoiding it but I will have to support someone that needs to upgrade so I installed it in a VM to see how horrible it was.
To my surprise, after uninstalling most of Microsoft’s crap like the Copilot app, One Drive, Teams, O365, and after changing the contex and start menu, it’s clean enough to be acceptable.
Is it only a question of time before Windows Update reinstalls all of this? Or it’s because my old hardware is not “AI enabled”?

That still won’t remove all the underlying spyware built into the core system, and yes, it is inevitable that an update will reinstall at least some of those applications.
At least, assuming they haven’t changed that strategy from Windows 10, which regularly reinstalled MS apps that users had removed.

I stopped supporting hardware years ago when their users didn’t switch to Ubuntu (that OS is maintenance free, I never hear from any problems). As long as it isn’t hardcore gamers (which have to help themselves) nobody “needs” windows on their private machine.
Gamers don’t need Windows.
There are games with “kernel level anti cheat” that don’t run on Linux. Fortnite is one example.
If you know a way to run Fortnite reliably and stable on Linux please tell me, I’d be very thankful. For most games you are right.
I hate Windows and I’m very much aware that we should avoid it if possible. I have been using Linux Slackware then Debian for decades, but since I’m a tech guy and it’s “what I do”, I help if possible. However I warn anyone asking for help with Windows that I don’t like it, it may cost more, there are other alternatives, this is not what I prefer, and I’m gonna bitch and whine. And over the years I have successfully convinced a few people asking my help, to use Linux. Usually I just install LMDE for people that only do light stuff, and it makes helping them so much easier.
In that case the person is running a business, with accounting software that runs only on Windows. Outlook and Office are also huge tethers and switching to Linux was not really an option for now. Maybe in the future. Maybe Windows 11 will prove to be more problems than its worth and we’ll try run the accounting software in wine and find solutions to the Office addiction. But so far the easiest course is unfortunately to try Win 11 first, try to debloat it, and… see.
It will. I re-run O&O ShutUp after every update to keep my install functional and clean.
