This is what happens when we have a class of people so detached from the rest of us that they don’t have anyone around to tell them to stop chatting shit and sort themselves out.
They simply live in a different stratum of society. They get to paint themselves as categorically moral, intelligent, diligent people. At the same time, they are essentially free from accountability and scrutiny. They do have plenty of people around them: people who share their views/morals, at least to an extent that they will choose profit and power over honesty, integrity, compassion, and restraint. People who platform these idiots and pay to hear them blather on.

I think that’s how he intends it. But a “higher purpose” is usually related to belief in something beyond your short life. Whether it’s leaving a lasting impact on the world after you are gone; or connecting to some spiritual purpose that extends beyond your life.
To me I’d say my “lower purpose” just sounds like something I need to get out of bed in the morning. Like, making coffee or something.
My ideal lower purpose would be beating guys like this with a sock full of nickles until they weep uncontrollably.
