2026: it did end, the transition to hell was subtle, but I see it now.
I distinctly remember in November/ December of 2014, driving to work up a hill in the fog, and my partner and I listening to NPR on the way into the station, there being a segment about Hillary and their inevitability as the Democratic candidate. And I remember how in the conversation we had about it I brought up the point about how profoundly stupid and disastrous it would be to just coronation Hillary into being the nominee, because she was a profoundly weak candidate; maybe the weakest candidate possible for the moment.
First and foremost she’d telegraphed her run decades in advance, and had given the entire RW apparatus decades to prepare for her specific run. The opposition had been specifically preparing for this exact moment and if there was one person they were particularly prepared to run against, it was Hillary. Entire think tanks had been committed to that task for decades. It didn’t matter if anything they presented was true or not; they’d have clips to run for days.
Second, her performance as secretary of state had been poor. She’d pissed off both the RW and progressives with her performance, the only ones truly appeased by her being slop-eating liberals. She was a total hawk, and basically extended the international hegemony established under Cheney an additional 8 years. She had no friends with regards to her role in government.
The third was that the Obama administration had clearly failed in their ability to make their campaigned upon policies, at least the ones the base which thrust Obama into power had prioritized, into power. Obama won on the back of the Occupy movement and the spirit which led the broadening of Occupy was the same spirit that ushered Obama in. And Obama, in so many ways, had betrayed that spirit. They took the side of corporations and banks in the manner of their governance. So any candidate coming from that administration was going to struggle.
And finally, media appeared to be completely oblivious to all of this. There is a kind of “head permanently nestled in ones own ass”-ness that only NPR and those for whom that broadcast is tailored to, the true liberals, can demonstrate. And it was already on full display.
That was the first time I ever donated to a campaign. It was Bernie’s campaign (and AI was a card carrying Republican).
Then I watched what Hillary’s campaign did and have refused to give any money to any campaign ever again.
That’s the only election I didn’t vote.
I have been voting Democrat down ticket ever since (as a protest vote) and wondering how the fuck everyone got so fucking stupid.

I’ll never forget the day that primary happened. I worked right next to an NYC polling place. All day we had Bernie voters coming in complaining about how their voter registration had been mysteriously deleted, or had been changed back to an old address they had 9 years before, or some ridiculous shit like that. Believe whatever you want, but that election was shady as hell.
I honestly wasn’t super political before that, I barely knew who Sanders was, so it wasn’t like I had been following the primary election.

Yes. Trump got fewer votes in 2016 than Romney did in 2012. If everyone who voted for Obama had showed up to vote for Clinton, Trump never would have won. I think it’s fair to say that Clinton lost that election more than Trump won it.
Trump isn’t very popular, and never has been. He got like 20% of eligible voters in '24. The Dems merely keep running even less popular candidates. Their entire platform in '24 was “hey at least we’re not that guy” and they still didn’t manage to distinguish themselves from him enough. Fundamentally, both the Dems and Reps are super out of touch with American voters as we actually exist. I think the Dems and Reps are far more similar to each other than they are to what most people in this country actually want.

2014 for me. Gamergate was…weird. I didn’t realize it fully at the time, but there were a few people I previously respected that I started having serious questions about.

Yeah. I agree. I time it to 2014 and can see Gamergate, now in retrospect, as a clear part of the origin story of the current moment. And one of the clearest signals is how befuddling and practically impossible it is to actually understand what gamergate is/ was. I was there for it, in the sense that I saw it happened, but it was noise at the periphery of my vision. And even what I did right there, the swapping of a subject word to an action word; how language around this “gamergate” thing evolved, and how it became completely befuddling to those not already interior to this thing to understand.
And I still dont understand it. And I don’t think others, even those deeply involved understand it either. But I want to be clear when I say “understand”, I’ve done a fair bit of research. I’ve pulled every reddit forum post on the matter. I’ve read book chapters and deep articles. But with the Epstein files and Bannons involvement, which we only now understand: it sure was “something”.
MY current working hypothesis; I think gamergate was the test run for Brexxit. And the test run for MAGA/J6. I think there is potentially also a Hungary and Orban, which preceded gamer gate.

I remember gamergate as something that, on the surface, looked like possibly legitimate criticism, but then as you said, people that went into it became kind of odd, with their own language used to describe it which didn’t really make sense. Like, the words were there, but they were using kinda tortured definitions in a way that weaponized them (…into a misogynistic culture war).
Personally, I’ve always been fascinated with language as someone who basically grew up bilingual, and picked up a few along the way since. There are concepts that I simply am unable to discuss in certain languages, because the words are not there.
Weaponized language had been around for some time. Hell, Gingrich basically made his career by using specific loaded phrases in speeches given to an empty senate chamber, specifically for the weirdos who watch C-SPAN. Similarly, you had some insular (often hate) groups that had their own internal lingo. Gamergate seems to have combined the two in a way that is now becoming increasingly common in politics.

What I’m suggesting is that all of this, has been us on the bad timeline. Somewhere in history someone fucked us all. Someone played with a time travel device. Created a rift which created this false timeline. Then they saw how fucked up shit was, and they left. They went back to the real timeline.
All of this? It’s not the real timeline. We’re an offshoot. We don’t matter. We’re real people, but this isn’t the real timeline. Somewhere out there Bernie Sanders won the 2020 election, trump is in jail, And AOC wins the 2028 election. While Mamdani respects the constitution, so unfortunately he’s not going to become president even in the real timeline, but he’s ok with that. Because if someone in that kind of power could disrespect the constitution, then what other power abuses would they be ok with? Can you imagine having a president who doesn’t think about the American public at all? Can you imagine someone who cares so little that they show up to a presidential debate, with an election looming in 30ish days, and admits they don’t have a plan? They only have concepts of a plan? They would be openly admitting that they intend to completely improvise running the country, with a handful of half thought out ideas. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine the country STILL voting him in? That seems like it would be the dumbest timeline.
And that’s where we are. None of this matters. None of this is real. But for us, we’re stuck here. SOMEONE has been planting hints everywhere throughout history. Here’s one that I’ve never seen anyone talk about. Elon Musk has been for decades funding SpaceX. His grand plan is to leave earth and live elsewhere.

How the fuck are you going to leave Earth, and live anywhere else? Yes there are other Earth like planets that support life that we’re found, but they’re thousands of light years away.
Now for anyone who doesn’t know, a light year is not a measurement of time. It is a measurement of distance. A light year is the distance you would travel going the speed of light for 1 year. In order to reach these other Earths, you need to travel the speed of light for thousands of years. So we know when Musk leaves earth, he’s not going to those planets. So where’s he going? Is it possible that he knows how to leave this timeline, and return to the main timeline, but lacks the technology to do so? So he just funds SpaceX so that he can leave?
Here’s another fun thing to think about. Throughout the late 1940s and 1950s, home tech really exploded. Microwave ovens. Electric refrigerators. Rockets. Lasers. Radio broadcast bandwidth that would allow the VHF frequencies for television. Air bags in cars. TV dinners. All this news stuff that completely changes the way Americans live their life. It’s all tech that was developed during WWII with the innitial idea of being used during the war. Most of it developed by nazis. Elon Musk is a self identifying nazi who even did the hitler salute twice during trumps inauguration in 2025. Once to the front camera, then he turned around and did it again. Removing all doubt that it was a mistake. He wanted the camera to see it, and then he did it again so the people behind him could see too. Is it possible that some technologies from the war never made it to use in our daily lives?
Kind of really seems weird that WWII starts out with hitler being some kind of political machine, and military powerhouse threatening to take over the entire world. Yet ending 6 years later with hitler being a meth head that is getting invaded from both sides. A reality he saw as a threat, so specifically made a non-aggression pact with Stalin. Only to then attack Stalin. Think about that. "I know russia would crush us if the west were attacking from the west, while russia attacks from the east. That would end in my defeat. I should get Stalin on my side, so I can divide France, England, and America if needed…right after I attack russia real quick.
That does not feel like a natural sequence of believable events, yet that’s our history. I think whomever has access to the time travel timeline jumping came in, dumped a bunch of tech from the far future in nazi hands. The nazis won, and then after hundreds of years of oppression traveled back in time to give the allies the win so the nazis fall.
And since their timeline isn’t a dumpster fire now, they have no reason to come back and check on us. How are we doing after they affected our lives? Bad. Though I will admit I am glad they killed the nazis.
But this means we gotta live through fascism again, this time from the USA instead of Germany. Once the USA goes full world domination and starts invading countries, maybe in a few hundred years someone will come back and coarse correct again. Because right now, it feels like we’re on our fourth or maybe fifth timeline. Musk threatens to change things if he can find his way out. No telling what changes that’s going to bring, but I can tell you he’s not going to give a fuck either way. If him leaving means the rest of the world is covered in life ending lava, he’ll still do it and not give two fucks.
