Ha ha, that’s cute, you think there is are admins and procurement teams involved. The book publishers sell this shit directly to the professors, and usually the university can’t get involved because of the way the profs contracts are setup. Pearson builds their platform for making the profs job easier, not for any benefit to the students.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can you protect yourself from an abusive and violent sibling when you are financially dependent on your enabling parents?English
10·13 days agoThis won’t work, a narcissist will burn the house down with everyone in it keep someone else from winning.
This is pretty much everyone.
Because the internet didn’t suck when we had those. Game companies were still innovating when we had those. Google wasn’t evil when we had those. Windows didn’t spy on us when we had those.

News@lemmy.world•A New Bill Aims to Ban Both Adult Content Online and VPN Use. Could It Work?English
10·1 month agoThe news on this has been underplaying how bad this bill is. It requires ISPs to inspect traffic to ensure its no porn, meaning they would have to be able to decrypt the traffic. This makes a single point were hackers can access credit card data, personal information, and anything else you don’t want to share with the world. This assumes the ISPs are willing to front the compute cost of decrypting then re-encrypting and not just banning encrypted traffic because its the easy and cheap way.

6·2 months agoI guarantee you, knowledge means something. You need the degree to get the job, but if you don’t know your ass for your elbow, that entry level job is as far as you are going to go. If you want a promotion and pay raise, you need to know your shit.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Why the fuck does it cost money to get smarter??English
2·2 months agoIf only that were true. Getting a degree is just paying to play, your resume goes into the trash without the right degree or certification, regardless of what skills you have. Having the piece of paper is no grantee you will get a job, hiring managers will find the dumbest reason to throw out applicants, because their job is to turn 100 applicants into 5 applicants so the people making the decision don’t have to work to hard.
